Hey all I was wondering when the best time to buy a 55"/65" 4k would be, do they tend to drop in April/may?

In terms of quality is an edge lit 65" going to look worse than the same edge lit 55"? I would like the quality to be similar/better than my current Sony 2014 TV (w705 series)

In terms of price I see a couple contenders:
Hi sense 65" m7000 (anyone here got one?)
Samsung k7000 series (do they do a 65" version?)

Max price I think around £1200, are there better branded 65" around this price?? Or will there be come May?

Im going to wall mount it in the position my current 42" TV is (pics below).
The picture might be slightly skewed but it's basically in the corner of a very large room, I've measured and a 65" would (not quite) be touching both speakers, which I can move further apart.

In terms of function I generally use it for gaming and general TV watching. We also watch the occasional movie but not loads (I would like OLED but the 65" price is too much for me!) . I'll be wanting this for 5+ years so will be JL/RS purchase.

New models tend to be in shops from about right now. So last years models you may see a small drop in price to clear, display models more so but I wouldn't buy off display because the amount of time they've been on.

I have a 2014 model samsung H6400 and its great for 1080p. Im not to sure if i want the ks7000 49" version if it would be much of a step up in quality. OLED is a different story

Your looking to buy at the wrong time.

Wait until the new models are released. So LS7000 should be th eone to buy when it's released or but wait for reviews. Or when they are released the older models drop in price or are usually cleared when they are announced. Nobody can tell you when they will be dropped in price that depend son the store and how much stock they have.

You need to watch the market from january - april. I have bought 3 EOL tv's in January/february.

One thing I want to avoid is the 6000 series. My dad has one of them (first Samsung 4k screens - I may have got the type wrong) and the motion/colour doesn't look great and my Sony TV looks far better :X!
Particularly bad motion blur on that TV when watching "pointless" on BBC which is odd really!

Sonny, are you suggesting there's still time for them to drop in price by April?

HUGE price drops happen when tv's are made EOL.

TV's can be made EOL anytime during Jan-April.

I've not been following the market so I don't know what has happened this year but I've done it in previous years but any tv can be made EOL during that time from any retailer. So you need to be scouring them all. I tend to only buy from JL so I find 2-3 tv's I like the look of from John Lewis then watch their prices everyday with a quick google, etc 2 times a day. I spend maybe 5 mins at around noon then another 5 mins at say 3pm everyday just to keep an eye on the prices of those sets from every online retailer that sells them.

You need to put in the work if you want to get one because like I say it's EOL stock once it sells it's gone forever so you need to be quick in order for a price match to be accepted.

For example my GT50 was RRP £1600, retailed for around £1400 and I paid £799/£899 for it when it was made EOL.
My Samsung plasma retailed for around £1600 and I paid £749/£769 for it which is less than 50% of what it retailed for about 4 months previously.

Both bought in Jan/Feb when they went EOL.

Stock tends to go EOL around that time but if your lucky you may find stuff which goes EOL in March or April but it will require constant checking of prices everyday. You also will need to keep your mind open about the TV you want/ There is no gaurantee a specific TV will be made EOL that has plenty of stock. So pick 3-5 sets and then when 1 of them is made EOL the price should drop dramatically.

Sometimes people post info about price drops on AVFORUMS too but it's hit and miss.

Seen that I can get Panasonic TX-58DX700B for £600 refurbished from Panasonic on eBay.... Bit of a curveball. Anyone got one?
Edit: looked at reviews and poor viewing angle and poor HDR put me off.

Whats the best prices people have seen for the Samsung 55ks7000 and 65?

ks7000 is the tv to buy ATM. nothing comes close in terms of value for money. it's also 10 bit HDR.

unless you want ultimate viewing angles then buy either sony or LG. LG moreso if you want great built in sound too.

Hnng the £700mark up for a TV that is 10" bigger is a bit painful, I think I'll maybe wait and see if the 65ks7000 gets cheaper... I see that the new models haven't released yet for Samsung q7 / 8 /9000 series

The largest of TV's have always had big price tags. It's always been that way, you pay a hefty premium to have the largest sizes. Paying sometimes multiple thousands more for an extra 10". Its not the best in terms of value for money to go for the biggest sets. Go for something smaller. Wait 3-5 years then buy again. Like you say it's double the price for a 65" over a 55". You could buy the 55". Stick the £700 in the bank. Then no doubt the 65" will be around that price in 3 years time. So you get the both the 55" and 65" for the price of just a 65" today. You can sell the old set on to recoup costs or move it into another room or give to family, etc.

I have the opposite issue where TV's are becoming too big. My living room has a secret enclosure where the TV is kept inside. i had a colleague from work round the other day and he was like this has to be the only living room I've been in without a TV. I then showed him the TV and said it was like something out of James Bond. The problem is the enclosure will only hold a 43" TV max. So I had to stick my 55" in the games room and the 50" in the bedroom.

I doubt I will ever be able to upgrade my TV in the living room. 43" and 4K don't tend to be the main focus. So I'm now going down the projector route for future upgrades. I just need to convince the wife now we need a projector.
