want a fast boot PC - what do you think of this?

Okay then - new PC.

As above; I would crib the drives and GPU from my current rig (and PSU but would have to check that to be sure I could).

Mobo: Asrock Z68 PRO3 Intel Z68 - Link - 105.98
CPU: Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) - Link - 149.99
SSD: OCZ Agility Series 30GB 2.5" SATA-II - Link - 49.99
RAM: OCZ Platinum 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 - Link - 27.95
OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium SP1 64-Bit - Link - 79.99
Cooler: Corsair Hydro H60 High Performance Liquid CPU Cooler - Link - 59.99

Total - £473.89

The SSD would be used as J-FRO suggested (as SSD Caching) and that cooler; because I would love to also quieten the thing down if I can and at £40 over a HSF then I am willing to pay that little bit more.

I figure that if I wanted to just upgrade my current rig I would pay: 223.97 as I would buy the Windows 7 upgrade disc (89.99), the agility series 3 60GB SSD (101.99) and the Startech 2-Port SATA III PCI-Express Controller Card (31.99). This would give a total of £223.97. So for £250 more I could get the above, plus have old components to sell on ebay for probably £60 to £80.

What you guys reckon? Before I go and break it to my wife :p

Yeah that looks good dude:p

Just to make sure- the OEM OS is tied to the motherboard so if you upgrade (which you shouldn't for aaaaaaages lol) then you will need a new one. Retail lets you upgrade motherboard but comes at a price.

You might want to check this thread out before leaping onto the SSD band wagon.

http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?p=19193550#post19193550

im really failing to see why ssd is bad, exept they size and price (which will prob change soon to better size/price ratio)
after i used my first ssd i will never go back to mechanical system drive e.g. windows, and ssd offering more than just boot speed (overall pc responsiveness,no lags, programmes booting without waiting etc.etc ...) ,no any so called band wagon here, ssd is one of the best ways to speed up system, its proved by many sites and many this forum members
OP,when you get your ssd and install W7 you will see yourself all ssd benefits ;)
let us know how ssd cashing works, would like to know

"One thing I would like to know though that I've not seen anywhere else on the forums is can you use a SSD to cache from another SSD?"

In theory you could, but unless it was a faster SSD, you'd not notice the difference. Even then, you'd be hard pushed to spot the difference.
