Want an Rx7? Don't want to worry about rotor tips?

Yes, this was in the hideously emissions-clogged era. They had to try and increase efficiency somewhat, by stuffing chokes in the carbs and all sorts, normally running on two barrels.

Bear in mind that you could very easily rebuild that clogged V8 with a few bolt ons and have something that makes 250HP, and then supercharge it and have something that makes 400......... :D

Or you just start with a decent 302, and make it up to 500HP N/A. Muha!

Just looked at the car - not a fan of the bodywork, but that engine will be making 320-380BHP and similar levels of torque :)

Why not just use a small 4-cylinder 1.6/1.8 to produce the 120bhp instead of using a huge V8 and crippling it?

I also think the car is awful - it looks awful, both inside and out, it's tacky and it's lost it's engine. No wonder he hasn't sold it!

Um...'cause you'd end up with sod all torque?

Because a big V8 like that will run for a hugely long time while producing that much power. It hardly has to do any work, so service intervals and lifetime will be very long. With petrol prices in the US being cheaper, it's a sensible way to do things.

I think it was Mickey D who said that.. makes sense.

I remember reading the ebay ad fo rit a while ago, it's got around 350bhp and was mainly designed fo rthe strip, hence the three speed auto. apparently you'd be hard pressed for anything else to change up quicker, looks a bit quirky though.

The fastest drag scoobies use an auto as well :). Think thats 3 speed to. :)

Yea. American manufacturers have always been tooled for V8's, so designing an efficient 4 pot that would require regular servicing and could end up being highly strung to make power, seemed silly when they could just smog one of their existing V8's to cut down consumption (although this rarely worked).

This then allows them to use the same engines for their performance ranges :)

american cars amaze me, i see some program where they restored loads of old classic cars that were spose to be real quick. they was running 1/8th mile track in about 12secs i mean jeeeez few more secs and my car could do a 1/4 mile lol

I thought the whole idea of owning an RX-7 (and the 8) was that Beautiful Engine!!!... Plus the Bonus of the engine being its equivelent 2x 643cc, meaning you can get Road Tax cheaper!!! as my mate does on both his RX-7 and RX-8 (he likes his Mazda's!!)

Thats BS, for tax purposes, its counted as a 2.3l

Well My Friend get his at 1.3l prices!... Don't ask me how!!... I've even seen the Tax Disc and Form from the DVLA for both cars!... :p

A Mazda RX-7 engine IS a 1.3L. No matter what any government says.

Engine displacement is determined by the swept volume of the combustion chamber, multiplied by the number of combustion chambers. And a combustion chamber is defined by the greatest volume incorporated by the spark plugs.

So an a rotary, there are two combustion chambers, 650cc's each. 650cc times two rotors is 1300cc's. Which is 1.3L. Anyone who says otherwise has absolutely NO idea about what an engine is and should NOT be allowed to EVER work on one (or in my opinion, own one).

DreXel, could we get you to take a pic of your emissions sticker on the underside of your bonnet please? Where the manufacturer's displacement is CLEARLY labeled at 654cc X2?

Ooooh my old mate Beario :D
He doesnt half get through his cars, used to have a Porker with a Rover V8, then went to a TVR, and now....this
Shame the cage looks a bit pants as if Kev did it (the Capri Racing And Performance mentioned in the txt) the work WILL have been to very high std
