Its prob gonna be september or maybe even closer to christmas before I build it, but I would say that £2000 is my limit, maybe £2500 if i can get 500 for my current system.

800GTX is the best card out and its DX10, right? So I think id be wanting one of them.

Basically I need everything from scratch. Including the case.

Could anyone give me suggestions?

I'm also going to be wanting to watercool the system, and considering the performance Ive heard you can get from the new quad intel processors, (the ones that cost 600 bones) Id not be worried too much about overclocking the crap out of it. Id be going for silence. There is an all in one fanless water cooling kit on here, cant remember the name of it but id prob pick it up as well (and there is a water cooled 500wpsu I can get ).

So with an absolute beast (but single graphics card) would that PSU be good enough?

And if it is, could someone please list their recommendations :D

It is a bit pointless specifying something now given the possible changes in the market between now and September but if you are buying in the next week or so, I'd pick something like this. I don't know anything much about watercooling but the kit you are probably thinking of is the Zalman Reserator, I've gone with air cooling here though so you are under budget. :)

Hold it a minute, HOLD ON A FRICKING MINUTE!!!!

The dell 2407WFP is now only £460!?!?!?!!?? This was the EXACT monitor I was planning on getting, as it is awesome and I have yet to here of a better monitor in its size.

See Im not gonna be in full time employment most likely until september so I aint got much spare cash at the moment, but when I do get a full time job Im prob just gonna put everything on the credit card and pay it off in goes before I get charged interest.

The processor you listed, Is that going to get me max settings on new games like crysis? Im prepared to spend a bomb on this because I have no intention of upgrading within the next 5 years after this. Not even swapping out the graphics card. So having the best processor and mobo at the mo would be what I want.

Also, would it be cheaper to get 2 500GB HDDs, or a single 1 TB HDD?

And thanks for the help btw :D

Two smaller drives, also if one goes down you won't lose so much (if you don't backup) also two drives will be quicker as OS, music and video is on one drive, and games on the other.

But I will have to commit to an intel or amd mobo firstly wont I?

Yes but its not a life changing decision if you change mobo in September.
As semi-pro said. Its pointless specifying it now considering the changes that may/will take place.

Ok, well if I start buying components seperately Surely I could get the case, ram, graphics card, monitor, water cooling system, PSU, and then definitely decide on which mobo and cpu?

kinda silly to buy in bits and pieces, especially things that depreciate. Things like keyboard, mouse, case are ok to buy months before you get the rest of the kit. But mobo/memory/cpu/graphics/HD decrease in value over time.

DDR3, New AMD's, New 45nm Intels, New chipset (x85) or whatever its called. New GFX cards, DX10.

Massive long list which makes it a really silly thing to do if you start buying things now.

45nm intels already?!!?!?

Damn this is feeling more expensive by the minute lol.

Well I could definitely commit to case, psu, HDD, DVD drive, monitor, kb+M with no major issue yea?

HDD- no as prices and capacities increase. Unless you decide on which make, that's either Western Digital or Seagate for performance, or Samsung for low noise. Avoid Maxtor.

monitor- same again, prices decrease and size increases. Faster response, higher contrast etc.

Well I had my eyes set on the dell 2407WFP. If there is a superior alternative at roughly the same price range I'm all ears.

Well, you've pretty much convinced me to hold off then I guess. I'll ask again in 3 months or so :D

Case, yes probobly.
PSU - no. Current ones which are performing well may get discontinued or start exploding.
HDD - yes probobly, but who knows.
DVD drive - yes probobly.
Monitor - no

You can NEVER tell whats happening with new hardware for computers, especially 5 months down the line.

I don't see the issue why you can't simply ask for a re-spec in September.

Like everyone has basically said, it's rather silly buying anything now if you're not going to be building it until sometime between September and December.

I'm going to be building two new systems myself at the end of July. I've got everything I'd currently want listed in a nice spreadsheet but there is no way I would actually buy anything until I'm ready to build. There's no telling how much prices may change and/or something better comes out and/or I find something I would rather have.

Isn't the convention usually OS, games and applications on one drive, and video, photos and music on the other?

That's how my current set up is but I'd like to change it if the above is better.....

Video, photos and music don't require independant HD access to the HD, games do, so it makes sense that the games are on another drive. If OS drive is big enough might as well put video/photos/music. Could use a 10GB partition on C: for OS, rest for above.

I agree don't buy/spec now if you are going to build come September.

But for others buying now and not sure whether to hang on for some unconfirmed technology or update, you will be waiting forever! :p
