Hi I've been eyeing up the Black Fridays deals and want to pull the trigger but I can't decide between the Rift and Vive.

I know this will be difficult to get an unbiased opinion but I really am stuck!

Rift Pro's

Better screen clarity
Less SDE
Move Controllers look to be slightly better than Vive?
Wife likes the design :)

Vive's Pro

Better FOV
Open approach to VR tech - Well done Valve
Great discount for Black Friday (Rift store credit is pants plus only from Game :()
Forward Camera
Bluetooth
Improved 3 in 1 cable (Would all new Vive's come with this??)

I was leaning towards the Rift because of all the talk of a redesign and updated controllers on the Vive but then read about the new cable which would help to make it less bulky. Also the Vive seems to have more community support.

Thanks

I was in the same position a couple of days ago, I opted for the rift and am very happy, my only gripe so far is the lack of ability to adjust focus, I wear with glasses at the moment but going to try contacts or prescription lens inserts.

Just be sure your gfx card can get the most from it too.

The current Vive is already wireless, just need to wait for mass production of the upgrade kit.

For that reason, go Vive :)

It really boils down to whether you want room-scale (get a Vive) or seated/standing only (Rift).

Yes, the Rift can do room-scale if you throw more cameras and extension cables at it (which won't be wife-approved...), but most Rift "room-scale" online Touch demos have the player dancing in front of their monitors, not exploring a room. Hopefully the existing Vive titles on SteamVR will ignore Oculus recommendations and offer Rifters the full experience.

Thanks all it's looking like a Vive then however I do have a feeling they will be releasing a refreshed design soon (CES 2017?).

Got a few hours to make up my mind :)

I'm in the same position to. I mostly want one for sim racing but also want to do room scale as well. I'm leaning more towards the Vive but not all racing sims have native support on the Vive and I'd have to rely on revive not to be broken again by Oculus. There's not really any reviews yet on how well touch does room scale. I'm finding it really difficult to decide. :(

I feel your pain. I saw the Black Friday deals and the £100 off the Vive swayed me. I wanted it mainly for iRacing and Elite and have been worried I made the wrong choice, but I also have to think of my kids - I'm sure they'll want to play all the other type of games.

I'm waiting for DPD to deliver it in the next hour! I got it from Currys with extra discounts via Quidco and work voucher schemes so I think, all in all, it's cost me about £560.

I only now realise I probably need mounts for the sensors and potentially one of the VR covers for comfort/sweat issues!

If you're not into drilling walls, get a pair of floor-to-ceiling supports and some grip-mounts for the lighthouses (do not try to use double-sided tape or any such nonsense...I tried, it was very unsuccessful and almost cost me a lighthouse or two).

As for the covers, I'm using the 6mm one from vrcovers, works a treat and improves the fov slightly, although not quite as comfortable as the stock foam and doesn't really support wearing of glasses.

Other recommendations: get a pair of wireless gaming headphones ;)

I do wear glasses as I'm slightly short-sighted (have to wear for driving), but don't wear them when I use the PC, so not sure if I'll need them for the Vive. So would the 18mm vrcovers be a better option?

As for headphones - I usually use HD595's (obviously not a gaming headphone), but that's another cable waving about I guess...

The headset plugs into a Jack at the back of your head I use mine with a cloud 2 hyper x and I've never gotten tangled in the head set wire as it just rests down your back with the rest of the cables.
