Ok so im a student a brighton university (comp science) I had virgin broadband 20mb last year and it was completely fine no problems.

This year me and my house mates went for the 30mb with the 'super hub' and after calling india a couple of times and them saying it would be fixed with 2 hours we still have a connection speed of 200kb/s (max cannot watch a low quality youtube vid) after three days (no matter what time of day.)

So basicly after looking around the net it seems virgin has really lost there quality of service and are just over selling everywhere and are pretty pathetic with telling the truth.

We bought it 3 days ago so we can still bottle out? with the 28 days withdrawal thingy.

Sam knows showed the following:

BT Wholesale ADSL
BT Wholesale ADSL Max
BT Wholesale WBC (21CN)
BT Wholesale SDSL
AOL LLU
O2 / Be LLU
Bulldog LLU
TalkTalk (CPW) LLU
Sky Broadband / Easynet LLU
Pipex LLU
Tiscali LLU
Virgin Media (Cable)

We need 20mb+ and unlimited dl'd with as little throttleing as possible, im really not great with understand connections and isp's so any help would be great.

Also is virgin the only isp that provides internet without the need for a land line? as we would prefer to avoid that.

Thanks for your time :)

All the others that are affordable are ADSL therefore will require a phone line. Speed will depend on the distance from the exchange and line quality. You'd have to be within half a mile to have a hope of getting 20Mb.

Sky are good in my experience, however you will need a phone line (either BT or Sky Talk) and a satellite TV subscription.

Fix Virgin IMO, call their cancellations team and complain about service, they should sort it soon enough. I've been with them since 2008 and could never go back to ADSL.

Ok so pretty sure its between these two? BE seems quite a lot more?

Literally they keep sending engineers and booking new ones when it is quite clearly nothing wrong with my router or house its the entire area! googling BN2 Virgin Broadband comes up with hundreds of complaints over the past year with none of the issues fixed.

Do any of your flatmates have an O2 mobile? It's £8pm+line rental if you do.

No none of them do :s

BE = BE Broadband and Fixed line is available in your area. A set up fee of £85.00 will be charged to install a new line at your premises.

*sorry for triple post*

Rang virgin just now and got though to some random, who said the whole area is running at 200kb (LOL) and it will be fixed in 10 days (20th) so i told her i would not pay and if they charged me i would withdraw though my 28 days not happy grantee, and with that she told me she could not charge me for this month so thats alright...

not just got to not watch any videos or play any online games for 10 days :(
