What do I begin with!?

AC? Forza (we up to 7 now?)? PCARS2? GT Sport?

I currently don't have a PS4 but always had a soft spot for the GT games.... so could get one.

But I have a G920 which I guess doesn't work with a PS4... so that limits me to the first 3 games...

Are they now much of a muchness or does each bring a different "element" to driving, i.e. one is a pure sim? One is career based? One is a combination? etc.

(I'm conscience whether I may have opened a jack in the box here - please do not misunderstand that I'm not asking for which is better which is worse, just what each offers and then I would be able to make a judgement what to start with! Plus I will do some research of my own, but first hand experience from your good selves is always welcome).

Thanks.

Not a major racer myself but the few I have fall this way imo

Forza Horizon 3 - definitely more an arcade racer but I really enjoy it. Graphically very well done & a huge choice of cars.

Assetto Corsa - very sim based & I'm sure if you have the time to put into it can be a great game.
However, I ended selling my g27 wheel setup after a while. Purchased it purely for this game as without one its virtually unplayable. I just couldn't get into it.

Grid 2 - again another arcade based racer. Fun but nowhere near as good as Forza Horizon 3

Dirt Rally - enjoyable & more a sim than arcade. Good on either a wheel or pad.

I play forza 7 and horizon 3 a lot and they are both great arcade/sim games but mainly pad based for controls, did try a wheel but it just feels awkward.

i like the look for the forza games but then i think if i spend all that money on them and dont like it. they should do game demos. i think i would buy a lot more games then

Dirt rally is on offer on humble bundle.my personal fav car game on pc of all time.takes sometime to learn but really good.

Pretty sure there is a demo of Forza 7, not able to check as in work, also you can request a refund if you bought the digital version.

I have Dirt Rally, WRC7, Forza Horizon 3 & Motorsport 7 and GT Sport on PS4 and they're all great in their own right.

I wouldn't want to miss out on any of them. Dirt Rally and WRC7 are a must for rally fans. Horizon 3 is just great arcade-y fun with lots of content and nice expansions. Motorsport 7 and GT Sport are both awesome but I slightly prefer GT Sport as a racer even though Forza has more content (awful AI).

I'd start with Dirt Rally (and WRC7, you have to have both if you love rallying) and Horizon 3.

If you want a console racer - although Forza is on Windows now - then you'll probably enjoy Forza more than GT Sport.

I keep going back to AC as i enjoy racing with a wheel far more than a pad.

I have both Assetto Corsa (with all DLC) and PCars2 and play both regularly. For me the handling model in Assetto Corsa is narrowly better than PCars2 but Pcars2 is a much better game with a huge amount of content. Assetto Corsa is more of a hotlap simulator I think. The graphics are also better in PCars2.

In order of Sim handling to arcade to give you an idea..These are just titles I have

Iracing - Subscription based, has on online safety and skill system, its what GT Sport basically use now but it's implemented properly. Amazing sim, clean racers (once you get out of Mazda rookie leagues) it's really an online racing career, incredibly involving if you want that kind of thing.
Raceroom/Automobilista - again sim style, very accurate and great fun but not a great deal of content.
Assetto Corsa - Great game, modding community is massive which takes the game to a totally different level. Great handling, decent enough graphics
Project Cars 2 - My personal favourite as it strikes the best balance between content, handling, graphics and sound fx. Much better than the first, has great single player career and online fairly decent although servers are a lot emptier than they should be. They need to adopt an online racing system like Iracing and GTSport then this game will be almost perfect. They have something in place but it doesnt really work.
Forza 7 - So much car eye candy, hundreds and hundreds of cars, a single player career, online lobbies, car tuning and livery customisation, auction house, time trials etc great fun. You can play with a wheel but really set up to be played with a controller.
Forza Horizon 3 - The arcade racer in the bunch. Almost like a Need For Speed type game set in Australia. The graphics are incredible, its a giant open world playground. Has car customization like its big brother (Forza 7)

I would say the best racers on pc especially with a wheel are
AC
project cars 2
dirt rally
f1 2017

that's in no particular order :)

Wow, thanks so much everyone, what fantastic feedback. Some games I didn't even consider like Dirt Rally, Grid 2 and the like.

Honestly speaking I'm leaning more towards "Sim/career" than pure arcade.... i.e. more about driving skill than arcadiness if that makes any sense?

From what I can gather, PCARS2 seems to be in that arena...

But I never considered Iracing or Raceroom, are these really on another scale compared to AC and PCARS 2?

Man... this is nuts, its amazing how we barely had a handful of races 10 years ago.... now its just crazy!

AC is great, lots of mods for cars/tracks. Needs a wheel to get fulfillment though.

DiRT Rally is good, RBR was better though.

PCars 2 I've not tried.

Forza 7 isn't as good as previous titles, multiplayer is unstable and general bugs everywhere.

FH3 is great, arcade and fun.
