Want to create a web page

I am completely new to this and would like some ideas on where to start. I want to create a website for photos. Do you have to buy software to create this or are there decent free ones available.
Apologies for the basic nature of the question but as I pointed out I am completely new to this.

If you have a mac I found iweb to be really easy. I'm totally new to it also and am working on a website for our uni studio.

It's all drag and drop and dead easy, there are default templates for displaying photos etc too.

There are a lot of different ways to go about it.

Depending on your content (ie are you going to be uploading photos every few days like a blog) you could try out wordpress.

Its a customisable CMS (content management system) that you install to your webhost. Its free and has a wide array of themes and plugins that are easy to install and setup. All page editing and writing of new posts are done in your browser through your wordpress sites admin pannel. Its very straightforward and you can make a good looking website.

I am using a PC and will be uploading pictures on a weekly basis, mainly sports photos for the local rugby team

If it's just for photos you could try those online portfolio sites that generate a gallery-website for you.

if you're going on a weekly basis, might want to look into a simple CMS system to use.
