Want to get rid of speed camera's??

Strangley enough i don't. I don't mind them out side of the primary school i pass on the way to work each day but i don't agree with them on fast A roads

Why do speed cameras need to be scraped?

"Cash machine ahead, police use only"

They don't do the specified job, read: they don't stop speeding, or help prevent accidents.

Either way I'm not signing. :)

It actually says:

After 15 years of speed cameras on British roads, neither road deaths nor hospitalisations have fallen as expected.

'as expected' being the key words.

Fine ok then, comprimise as I cba with an arguement... They work in some situations to help cut down on speeding and accidents, but not as expected.

I was planning on typing a load of tosh about goverment spending, but I'll leave that for another day. ;)

I bet labour is laughing at these petitions, they don't do anything. If they want to do something they will do it regardless of what the public think, surely you have realised that by now?

Complete rubbish.
I've lived in the same house for over 8 years, we had a scamera fitted a while back as it is the accident black spot of the area. Prior to the scamera we had 3 serious accidents a year, since the scamera, None. It has also reduced the speed of cars going past my house, therefore reducing noise and making it easier & safer to cross the road. There are two colleges and a park entrance plus residential parking within a stones throw of my house.
People do not speed past my house now and there are No accidents at all. For me it's a great relief not to have to pull people out of car wrecks 3 times a year i can tell you.

I have never seen one around any of the local schools, if they were dotted around in areas where speeding was dangerous I would fully support them, however they all seem to be on long straight NSL dual carriage ways in the middle of nowhere :(

Then come up with a better idea for reducing accidents and road deaths! Nobody is likely to complain.

Until then . . . well you know what to do ;)

Focus on the things that actually cause it perhaps?

Even the government's own figures show that speed doesn't have a major influence on anything related to the causes of accidents.

As the government ignores safety in favour of revenue generation though, it's rather hard to get people to see past the spin...

A couple more links regarding speed cameras..

http://www.pistonheads.com/speed/default.asp?storyId=15306

And the most well known link

http://www.safespeed.org.uk/

Bad driving has little to do with an arbitary number on a speedo, and nor does safety, the government's own reports support this, yet they do nothing about it...

I want to save lives, I want road accidents to go down, unfortunately, it seems the government is less worried about that, and more concerned with raising revenue and spinning an image.

Ok, so you proved me wrong, I except that.

But from my experience the accident blackspots around my area are no where near a speed camera, which means the cameras are either in the wrong places, or there aren't enough of them.

And they become redundant if you adhere to the speed limits..........

Sounds like a well placed camera, presumably the road looks safer than it is. I don't have a problem with this...

Shame that's not how most cameras are placed though...

Speed limits have little to do with road safety though, especially strict adherance to them.

I'll take that as a hint that you think I speed when there isn't a camera around? Ok then, nice assumption from very little information.

Any form of camera in my eyes is a stealth tax.

I dont know of any of them around my roads in North Devon, that have actually helped, same being for most of them on the roads.

I dont have a problem with them being by schools, but then, surely people wouldnt want a school or anything that has a lot of people coming in and out of it, near a main road or motorway anyways would they?

If people where taught to actually drive rather than perform turning in a road or reversing around a corner, then maybe the drivers in this country would be better on the roads??

I for one hate them, I'm voicing an opinion, so if you dont agree, dont post in the thread or **** me off for putting it there..

If you are interested, thank you for signing your name :)
