Want to make an upgrade to i7

Thats what i thought andi, which led me on this train of thought.

Hmmm some games are showing signs of lag > i need to upgrade > graphics seem too be the obvious solution > should get a second 4850 > that means a new mobo, so i may aswell get a decent DDR3 mobo instead of a better DDR2 > that means i now need a new processor, CPU fan, motherboard ram and another 4850 > okay this is getting a bit much, lets ask OCUK forums :S

But as you was saying about the overclocking, what do you think i can get by knowing what my Mobo is?

Lol - I see your thought process exactly, it all makes sense now.

If you are looking for a reasonably cheap upgrade - this X48 will do proper x16x16 crossfire and uses the same DDR2 RAM you already have. It also will allow you to clock the hell out of your chip (the 3.5Ghz + I was talking about).

Add on the Thermalright cooler and noctua fan, plus the xfx 4850 for extra graphics oomph. The best thing is the graphics and cooler/fan will transfer over to any future X58 setup no problemo.

Edit: as i alluded to earlier, your Nvidia based motherboard does not like overclocking quad core chips very much at all. I think the 3.0GHz have got already is probably the top end of what that mobo can do.
