Want to move from Dual 27" to widescreen - who has done it?

I have 2 x 27" screens (both 1080p 60Hz)

I was looking to get a 32" screen but I feel I'd be losing some screen real estate with "only" 32" widescreen

Is 34" a better option going from 2 to 1 screen?

Anyone went from 2 to 1 and what size screen did you get to replace it?

Depends on what resolution you go to really.

32" 4k will give you exactly the same width, and double the height in terms of pixels, physical height will be more, but will be significantly smaller in terms of width.

34" ultrawide 1440p will give you 400 pixels less width (3840 vs 3440) and 360 pixels more height (1080 vs 1440), physical height will stay the same, but width will be narrower.

38" ultrawide will give you the same width and 50% more height in terms of pixels, and will again be bigger in terms of physical height, but not as wide.

Basically, all the options will give you more pixels, but less physical size.

I switch between 2x24" 1080p in the office and single 34" at home. I much prefer the ultrawide, but do sometimes miss the full width of the 2x 1080p screens when working. I did have a 38" for a while which was fantastic, but am in the process of replacing it with the 34" Alienware - will probably keep the 27" 1440p I'm currently using as a 2nd monitor for work.

It also depends on your usage, UW is so much better for gaming (if you can run it - it will be a significant decrease in performance vs a single 1080p screen), and while it is perfectly usable for work purposes, if productivity was your sole usage I'd probably go for the 32" 4k, or at least keep one of your current monitors as well.

Thanks for that, useful advice there, cheers.

Ok this leads me to my next question.

How does it work having one screen a 1080p and the other screen (say the 34" 1440 one you mentioned) can I run both with different resolutions as two seperate screens without any issues, with one GPU?

That depends on how you want to use them. If you have them extended then no issues at all, you can just drag windows between them as you would if they were the same size, the only quirk you'll get with different resolutions is that where the edges don't line up, you won't be able to drag across.

Having them cloned is a bit more complex. I've just tested it and my 1440p monitor was fine, but the 1080p one was displaying a "1440p" image - e.g. everything was the same size on the desktop, but a bit fuzzy because it was basically trying to upscale the 1920x1080 pixels to display the 2560x1440 image (a bit like running DSR to play a game rendered in 1440p but downscaled to 1080p). It also disables HDR, even if both displays are capable of it, and I'm not sure how it would work in games? But you could always just play games on the single 34" and keep the 27" as a secondary screen for Discord etc. which is what I'm planning to do.

Thoughts on whic of these is best?

7 Samsung 34'' Ultra Wide LED Monitor (LS34J550WQUXEN - WQHD 3440x1440 / £260.00

Or

iiyama G-Master GB3461WQSU-B1 34 Inch 21:9 Ultra Wide ADS-IPS LCD with HDR,144hz,1ms,3840x1440,450 cd/m² Brightness,FreeSync Premium ,2 xHDMI,2 x Display Port,2 x 5W Speakers,Height Adjustable £275

I've not used either of those, but looking at the specs on paper, personally the Iiyama seems like a clear winner, its curved, IPS and faster than the Samsung (144hz vs 60hz), it also has 3 year warranty vs 2 on the samsung

From what i can tell, the Samsung is VA which combined with the lack of curve at that size and (relatively) poor viewing angles might end up with some colour shift at a normal viewing distance.

The only benefits of the Samsung would be deeper blacks & better contrast.

I've also had poor experiences with Samsung in the past which has put me right off them as a company
