what I mean is - I enjoy playing games on the PS3 etc but often when I'm actually playing them and come to a hard bit (usually shooting) I just want to get past that bit, and really just get to the end of the game so it's completed.

Anyone else get this?

Not because they are hard - i mostly just feel this way because very few games are compelling enough to keep my interest all the way through. I get to a point where I've gone so far and want to finish it but think to myself that I'm just doing it for the sake of completion - rather than enjoyment.

I stopped this. If i get bored, i leave it. So what if its unfinished, I don't have enoguh time to waste doing something im not fully enjoying

I love hitting a hard point in a game working away at it for ages and then getting past and then putting the game down. It's all too often though that I never pick it up again because I think there will be another hard bit and I don't have the time to half complete it...

I'm slowly starting to get this. I'm after more story orientated games like Heavy Rain and Uncharted which keep the flow/momentum going. if I die a couple of times on the same bit in a game my attention seems to wane and I start getting bored.

Bit like outlast it's scarring the crap out of me

I found the trick with Outlast is to "skip" everywhere. By this I mean constantly jumping - it looks like the character is skipping though.

It turns the game from a jump scare fest into an almost comical spoof of itself.

"la la la you can't get me" *Jump scare" " Ooooo so scary, la la la"

:D

For the thread subject I find the most annoying thing in games is when you get a sudden jarring in the overall pacing. Something like a sudden action segment in an otherwise stealthly game or vice versa. This can often be seen as hard as you simply weren't expecting it / particularly enjoy it.

I don't mind having to redo difficult parts so much, what really bugs me is when you have to redo a difficult part, but sit through a 10 minute unskippable cutscene before hand. Every single time you fail! Honestly, what would be so difficult about putting the checkpoint AFTER the cutscene?!

Can't remember which game I was playing recently that had this, but really bugged me...

Bioshock Infinite had this effect on me. The story was brilliant and kept me wanting more, but the poor shooting mechanics made it feel a bit like a chore. The world was interesting to explore though.

Plus I knew there was a twist coming that I really wanted to experience.

I played GTA V taking my time to do all the side missions, etc rather than story only and I found it just wasn't that long IMO. After it was completed online was a joke so nothing left to do.

Games only last a few weeks maximum until your bored these days unless it's online multiplayer.

If all you want is the story, people usually upload all the cutscenes in order so it's a movie onto youtube. Why not just watch them for free if that's all your interested in than playing the game?

I think the difficulty of games has really dropped over the years. I come from the 8bit gaming years where games really did have difficult aspects to them.

Modern day games have more frustrating parts than difficult parts, I enjoy collecting trophies for the PlayStation games but games like tomb raider have trophies I will never get! I don't have time to hit level 100 online, even if I did have time, I don't want to waste this much of my life playing the game online! I would take difficult challenges over these time sucking achievements any day of the week.

Just drop the difficulty of the game to suit your enjoyment levels, that's the best suggestion I have.

To the OP, you just need to relax and engage the part of your mind that can strategise or indeed straight up murder!

I completed Bioshock Infinite and had fun but it just confused the hell out of me.

I wish Alan Wake never ended. I wanted to be lost in those woods forever. Every turn around a corner or into a hut or cave was magical.
