Hi all,

I currently have a Samsung SM951 256GB M.2 PCI-e Gen3 8Gbps x 4 AHCI but have realised I should have got a NVMe version but hey ho, but seeing as the performance of this is great, I am tempted to get the 512GB NVMe version instead now. I do have a Samsung 512GB SSD 850 PRO SATA currently installed and just wondering if I would be wasting my money????

I feel left out not having the NVMe version

If you are talking about replacing your 850 pro with an SM951 nvme drive, then....

I doubt if you will really notice much difference myself.

But if you have money to burn and can re-use the 850 pro in some other way. Then hey, why not. No pockets in a shroud, as I'm fond of saying.

Wait for 950 pro nvme. Due in 10 days and should be a sounder investment due to warranty etc.

Indeed.

Plus the Samsung 950 is a consumer drive (SM951 is really OEM aimed at professional system builders) and hence should receive some proper support. No doubt Samsung Magician will also support the 950 at some point, where I doubt if it ever will the SM951.

But my original comment/s really still stand... that it's not really worth replacing the OP's 850 pro unless he has a) money burning a hole in his pocket and b) has some other use for his current drive.

But when did common sense every come into upgrading your PC (never has for me at least) ;)
