Wanting a new camera.

So,

i currently use a Song DSC-HX1 which is pretty good, However im thinking of selling it ( Could prob get £250 - 300 )

And im looking at getting the

NIKON D3000 Digital SLR Camera + 18-55mm Nikkor VR Zoom Lens

or

CANON EOS 1000D Digital SLR Camera with Canon 18-55 mm EF-S Zoom Lens

Im just wondering if there is much difference between the HX1 and these 2?

I know my current camera isn't an SLR and im by far a great photographer, but i just want to be able to zoom good and capture good pictures ( Such as Cars racing etc ).

Get a 2nd hand body for £100-£200, spend the rest on the best lens you can get.

18-55mm won't be enough for motorsport imo.

What kind of body you recommend?

And Body / Lens combos that are good for around £300 - £350.

I started out shooting motorsport with a 350D and 70-300 Tamron lens....

55-250mm IS
30D

Probably comes in at about £450 but it's about as cheap as you can realisitically go without sacrificing quality - you could opt for a 350/400D if you wanted to save more... and go for a 70-300 instead but I think the above set-up is much better...
