Wanting new case - Akasa or Lian Li regardless of price

i love my V1000 to death

but theres no denying the air flow on it is useless. Theres no airflow into the chassis apart from the airflow that comes in through the hard disk bay at the bottom and back out of the PSU.

theres an extraction fan at the back (at the bottom, not where all the heat is) and no air intake into the main comparment.

that compounted with the fact that graphics cards will be above the fan, and thus all heat produced by it will rise to the top of the chassis and stay there.

means alltogether its a very bad design. I dont overclock so the lack of airflow doesnt bother as at the end of the day, my CPU never goes over 50 and my GPU never goes above 80 so it cant be that bad.

Sorry to say this, but you do realise the 120mm fan on the back is a intake dont you?

Im unsure if this is another case of check the Lian Li airflow diagrams...

it doesnt matter which you do

at the end of the day the fan is at the bottom, and heat rises to to the top. And there is only one fan, so there cant be a push/pull air flow through the main compartment

and there is no fan at the top to expel all the hot air that accumulates there.

here it is

v1000_dissipating.jpg

as i said, the back fan is for extraction

and the cool air is supposed to enter the case from the front. But there is no intanke fan, so you cant get a proper push pull effect

granted cold air can be sucked in due to negative pressure, but there is no front grill, the top compartment is entirely drive bays.

on the plus version you get the ducting and graphics card fan tho and all extras that pic there is of the normal version. I have the lian li v1000+ black its a really good case.

Thats the v1000, the v1000+ has a different diagram, not currently on the site but there used to be a flash animation.

Air comes in by back fan, and out by the blower fan.

Your talking about the V1000+, he owns the V1000.

Same as above - the airflow on the V1000 is rubbish.

Ahh ok, the bottom one is relevant to the current ones you can buy easily though, so as not to put the OP of buying a v1000+ as they are stunning cases.

I used to have the v1000 and it was ok for the cooling, but I was only running a fx5200 in it at the time :D I can imagine it getting toasty with higher end graphics cards.

But I will stress that the v1000+ is far superior to the v1000 and they should be treated as completely different cases.

looking at the diagrams they arent

the V1000 plus has some extra bolt on bits. And in the interesting thing is, my case actually has the duct for the top extraction fan of the 1000 plus, but no fan. Leads me to think i can buy them and bolt it on to make it a V1000 plus if they sell the fan separately.

heres the 1000 plus

and heres the 1000

edit

just found these on Lian Li website. seems they are just 2 separate bolt on bits :)

but only problem is, my case doesnt have the screw holes for it though, but since when has that stopped a case modder :D

installed the bits in my new case and its very nice indeed. Thanks for all the feedback.

I would highly recommend the Lian Li V1000+ to anyone. The cooling is excellent although stock fans are a little loud.

Next question is water cooling :)

Only problem is, I have not found a case to move to now :(

I used to change cases every month / 2 months as I like new ones, sad I know, but bar a new v1000+ or maybe a v1100+ there really is not anything out there I like, the TJ07 is great but overpriced and the cooling is OTT and not entirely needed imo.

Its a curse I say!

Wonder when the new lian li cases are out :D

:)
Anyone had a look at the Lian-Li V2000 yet - this would be my choice
Full Tower, 3 compartments, side panels remove by single thumbsrew fixing
Can take up to 12 HDD's, 7*5.25 Bays, PSU bottom mounted, 2 x 120mm Fans
Like the V1000 also has mesh front and grills on case floor to aid airflow
See these reviews

All for £ 170.00 - almost £50 cheaper than the Silverstone Temjin TJ07

Just ordered the Black version - to replace my Lian-Li PC6070A case (whixh is nice but a bit cramped for space.
