My doctor has recommended me to take up some exercise to see if it helps with my little anxiety problem. I always used to enjoy going to Pines or Chatsworth House on the bike when I was younger so thought it would be a great Idea to get back on the bike. :)

So the last couple of weeks I have been borrowing my brothers Hardtail mountain bike and have really enjoyed it!

I now want my own bike but I'm stuck on what to get. I'm 6ft5 so unsure what size frame I want and I have a budget of £1000-£1200 to get a bike and a helmet.

Sorry for the long post and thanks in advance for any help

David

Well you've got a fair bit to play around with, i'd say try to keep the bike to £1k and that leaves enough for a helmet, clothing, lights, lock and any other accessories you might need.

A good shop will be able to help you out with sizing, but it's mainly based on your inseam and your reach.

What sort of riding are you looking at doing, exactly? Road? Light trails? Offroad? If you're after a bit of an all rounder I'd have to recommend a cyclocross bike.

How about something like a 29er hardtail then if you have been enjoying the current hardtail. Someone like Canyon are very good value for money, the one linked below looks like it would be a good spec for the cash and still give you plenty to buy a helmet with.

They are direct sales only from Germany but they do have a size calculator so just measure yourself up and see what it says.

Another Nottingham cyclist, welcome :)

Can't help with the bike purchase though as I know nothing about MTBs.

Cycling and overclocking seems popular in Nottingham. ...according to my limited perspective!

Wonder how I can capitalise on this fact?!

Thank you for the replies. I'm 30 in July so it's going to be an early birthday present / treat thats why I have a nice budget. I'm after a bike where I can take it on some light trails and a little bit of off road. Thanks

I love the look of that bike, I will add it to a list and see what others pop up! but that's a lovely bike!

I took road up cycling in order to get some exercise to help with anxiety and depression and it's helped me a lot. I hope it works for you.

cyclo cross unless the off road is stupidly rugged terrain, I'm guessing it's just mostly still light trails running through wooded areas

Nothing worse than a big heavy mtb when you don't actually need one.
