As the title says. I’m wanting to upgrade from my xs max and tbh, after being on the Apple side of the fence since the iphone 4, I’m starting to wonder whether I want to stick or try something else.

I’m sorta in the Apple lifestyle...I’ve got AirPods (although they do work with Android) and I have an Apple Watch 4 but app wise I don’t have any real ties to the Apple range. I’ve paid for a few apps over the years but nothing expensive/I can’t lose and really if anything FaceTime is about the only thing as most of my close family are Apple users too!

I think really the issue is that I’m bored! Bored of there being nothing really new about the iPhones (hence I’m still using the XS max). Bored that every iPhone is just basically a more expensive version of the last one.

My eye has been drawn to the Galaxy S20 plus as my expected alternative. I really really like the idea of the Fold 2 but I’m just not sure if that’s a “safe” jump. Plus if I’m looking at contract prices, the s20+ is going to be say £40 ish and the fold2 is more like double that.

I tried searching about for people jumping from Apple to Android and it actually felt like more were going to other way! Is there something I haven’t seen? Has anyone else jumped ship from Apple?

I had an XS and convinced myself I hated it. Moved to a Note 10+, tried a Oneplus 7 Pro, a Oneplus 8 Pro and a Samsung 5G FE. All were good yet I wasn’t happy with them. Now I’ve got an iPhone 12 (non pro) and finally I’m happy with my phone. And the battery life is phenomenal for my usage. Old XS = 6 hours SoT with new battery. Iphone 12 is hitting 10 hours with the same (my) usage.

Thanks for the reply.

so was it just a longer “up-time” that sold the phone to you? Cuz I’ve had some looks and from what I can see that’s one of very few differences - along with 5G, slightly better front camera and a faster chip

Or was it the general use of the UI? I mean cuz yeah, iPhones are well nice and easy to navigate and use.

The 12 feels like a more rounded phone than the other options. The size works for me, the cameras are great and the phone has no stutters or slowdowns. While iOS is obviously no different between the XS and the 12, the new phone feels new enough and nice enough to be a worthy upgrade (certainly if money isn’t tight).

There are of course a lot of decent large screen Androids and 120hz is very nice. For me, they’re all lacking in a key area - terrible Exynos chips in the S20 range, curved screens and bad cameras on Oneplus phones etc.
