Wanting to upgrade

Hey

I have been wanting to upgrade my PC but I am not sure what parts I need to be able to play the games that I want at a high level, and if they are compatible with each other. I would like to play games such as Shadow Of War, Star Wars Battlefront 2 and other games similar to these at high quality graphics and high frame rate. My current computer specs are :

AMD FX-8350
GTX 770
8GB Ram
M5A99X EVO R2.0 Motherboard

I have already done some research and thought about getting 8GB of Corsair DDR3 Ram to make my Ram 16 in total, and also a duel GTX1060-O6G. But I am unsure of whether or not I need to improve my cooling system or motherboard alongside these changes that I think will help me reach the performance level that I am striving to get.

Any help about the choices that I have made will be very helpful. Tell me if the choices I have made are good or bad, as this is my first time doing this and I want to get it right.

Only 8GB v 16GB here to accommodate the 1070ti. RAM frequency is usually more important than total amount for games.

Few different options here. For slightly above £800 you would get a large performance increase over the RX 580 options by going for a 1070/1070ti. These are slightly over budget though. The i5-8400 option currently costs ~£30 more than it should due to retailer price gouging, it will be a much better option when prices reduce to normal.




For the PSU, although it is rated with enough wattage to power these systems I would recommend a new (better) unit. Your existing one is not very high quality, and is also perhaps out of warranty. I'm not saying that your PSU will immediately break, but if you're spending this much on parts you intend to keep for many years a good PSU can't hurt.​

I would have thought that gaming at 1080p, a 1070 would be overkill and OP should stick to either a 1060 or RX580.

If it is purely a gaming rig, he could also trade down to a Ryzen 3 1400 and same £40 or i3 8350k (although INtel I would recommend waiting for until the cheaper motherboards behind available). Personally, I would go with the Ryzen 1600 recommended as it is within budget but that money could go towards an SSD for example.

Finally, if he can find DDR4 3000 RAM and 10% or cheaper than 3200 (currently on OCUK they seem to priced the same) get that. When I last looked, there was a 20% difference in price for about 5% increase in performance.
