Basically, Id like your opinions on this system, how to improve it for what I need etc.

Im an avid gamer, and want the machine to be able to play the latest games.

Going for:

E6600 Core 2 Duo 2.40GHz
BFG GeForce 7950 GT OC 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail
Gigabyte GA_965P_DS3 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
2 Gig of some sort of ram

I imagine i'll most likely go for the bundle on the site that offers the above CPU and Mobo.

What are your thoughts?

Also, when attaching the E6600 to the mobo, what are the steps - are they different from say an Athlon 2400+ XP ?

edit: Im sorry ive posted this in the CPU section, I mean't to put it in the general hardware section as it covers more than a cpu - is there anyway this could be moved. Sorry for the inconvenience.

I don't like the hsf that comes with the e6600, they attach to the m/b with some silly plastic plungers, my advice, look for one that screws through the m/b.

Oh and go for rhe geil memory, the ds3 loves it .

I was planning on buying the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 anyway.

I assume that this would replace the heatsink and fan that comes from the E6600 :P

Im new to the world of high performance, as you can no doubt tell haha.

Also, when attaching it, am I suposed to use some kind of thermal gell?

Without a doubt, and there's some room there for overclocking. Got mine at the moment @ 3.4 with only 1.3 vcore. I already know it will do 3.6 with 1.45, but because I only upgraded yesterday, I'm burning the cpu in at the lower vcore first.

Just another quick question, if I were to buy a PSU - what would you reccomend. I see lots on the site, but I dont really know what the difference is, especially between the different wires from them.

dnt get a hiper psu.. i had 1 and for no reasion it just went with a loud bang!!

took out my mb..

voltages are to hight on them as well instead of been a near constant 12v they can peek at nearly 13v.. not a stable psu at all..

go for the 7900 gto.. mine runs bf2 on max no problems at all...
