Hi. I'm trying to to remember the title of a british war film that (I think) was shown on bbc2 a few months ago. I've avoided posting this for a while because I hoped to work it out myself for a while but dont think I can

the details I can give you are very vague, and mainly from watching the trailer on youtube (but then forgetting the title).

so... I guess it was made in either the late 60s or early 70s. Its black and white and may have been funded with the help of stanley kubrik (I dont know why I think this). I remember a scene in the trailer of a soldier walking through the woods and there being a lot of smoke. I also remember a scene where the soldiers are sitting in a cinema. It doesn't seem like a mainstream war film and I can imagine it probably doesn't contain any scenes of battle.

what else can I say then. it looked awesome erm thats it. kawalski. help.

Can't for the life of me think of it, although the scene you described regarding soldiers sat in a cinema seems to ring a bell.

And thanks, I'm flattered. ;)

Let us know if you find out.

Was it actually shown as a full film recently or was it on some count-down thingy?

If it was the film, can you remember anything else about it? Say, for example, the rough plot.

I thought of BoB (probably the episode 'The Breaking Point') when he mentioned the cinema. George Luz: "Got a penny?"

That said, it might actually be a nod to an old film.

Just a wild guess...The Long the Short and the Tall?

It does sound familiar, can you think as to what uniform the soldier walking through the woods was wearing?

I remember watching a b&w war movie where the soldiers were sat watching a film in an old church, can't think what that's called either though.

The long the tall and the short is a bit too early. I'm pretty certain its more of a late 60's/70s 'independant' kind of thing

no idea about the uniform but he was the main character and british

also, no idea about the plot. I only saw a few minutes and it was most of the way in so i switched off, did some reasearch into and planned to buy it..now i've forgotten everything. I remember seeing the director had done maybe around 7 or so films in his career, but i hadn't heard of him previously.
