I saw a black and white war movie featured on some countdown show, probably something like 100 greatest war movies or the like.

It's basically some chaps escaping from the Germans in some little coal type cart on a rail line and apparently the movie is pretty much based around that. They travel through some freaky baron landscapes with a weird soundtrack etc.

Any ideas?

:)

might be worth a shot..

go onto imdb, find 'the great escape' then look under similar films at the bottom, unless it is 'the great escape'

It's 100% not the great escape.

It's black and white. More a sci-fi type movie, quite creepy. Just some chaps on a rail cart travelling across some creepy landscapes.

More info:

I believe it's a sort of post-apocalyptic type movie, very creepy. From the little parts I've seen, some guys are running away from what I believe to be German soldiers. They jump onto a little cart on a rail line and start travelling via the rail line. Barely a word is spoken between the men.

I'd say probably made in the 50's, as it was black and white yet presumably about the war.

It sounds like a Russian film to me, a little like ''Stalingrad'' or one of Sergei Eisenstein's
I know there was a post apocalypse Russian film where they were running around deserted buildings with fog and mist all around
