Warhammer Online

I can only think that the original team that did daoc, never touched WAR at all.

There were just to many issues that you'd think a team, with past mmo experience, would just know how to sort.

...and no third/fourth realm was just the biggest oversight ever!

I've been away from Warhammer Lore for a long time...is there even a possibility for a 3rd faction?

I agree about it feeling like "levels" - it does ruin the immersion factor, especially as they further compound it by consistantly pigeonholing everything into "Tiers". No idea if they could have made it a complete world like WoW without impacting the RvR mechanics...

Still, making a successful RvR game must be pretty difficult, with population and class balance issues - WoW only has arena's as a small part of the overall game, they're still balancing (and still heaviliy critisised for it) 4 years on. Its no wonder devs tend to stick to PvE games.

I think a lot of people call War a WoW clone because the UI's are similar, and Blizzard totally ripped off the visual style of the Warhammer universe. But the games themselves are definitely individual.

pitty the game feels so bad compared to wow.

just wandering around feels like its missing something

Blizzard knew what they were doing making the whole world so seamless and integrated. It makes it a lot more believable when you can fly over the whole continent and see it unroll beneath you. A lot better than a crappy jumpy coptor cut scene.

It didn't help that the three areas - dwarf, empire and elf, looked like they were designed and drawn by different teams who never talked to each other. The whole world just felt like a bunch of fps levels cobbled together.

Dreadful waste when there was such a wealth of lore to draw from.

That was pretty lame I have to admit. I'd rather they just put up 1 of a bunch of random loading screens each time. At least that would be more interesting than the same repeated fly over.

There's pros and cons to the whole seamless vs zones argument. Most of the players these days expect seamless worlds, but they do come at a cost. Developers can add a lot more variation to art assets and the like with zoned worlds, but with seamless there's a lot more restrictions.

True, but can you point to me the variation in art in war? Unless you mean the differnt factions, which i kinda take to be a given you need differnt art for.

I can't.

Unfortunately, zoned worlds are rarely optimised (not in the engine sense, but the 'make the most of' sense). Zoned areas are a developers favourite because they're a lot easier to work with. You can increase the graphics quality because each area is loaded and unloaded every time you zone. But with seamless worlds you have to scale back because of the huge demands placed on the players rig.

IMO, Warhammer should look better, and more varied, than it does.

Surely they've scaled back due to potential demands from mass RvR? I can bang everything upto max when staying away from Keep sieges, but I need to drop everything right down to 'medium' or lower for those - and even then my FPS takes a massive hit.

I've not actually bothered to renew after the 30 days free trial. I'm too busy with studying for exams and other more accessible games just now lol

They really, really need to make a 3rd realm for WAR. I was bitterly dissapointed to find it was only 2 realms.

That's a large part of what made DaoC work so well. They should have made the dark elves a separate faction, and designed accordingly. I don't think they can save it at this stage, it's too fundamentally flawed.

Agreed.. even when it was set grp vs set grp, because of their being 3 realms you were never entirely sure what you were up against.

I think Order vs Destro works well, they should just bring in Lizardmen to mix things up.

I completed the survey that came out about the game and mentioned the lag. I think if you guys have got the e-mail about the survey you should all mention it too. In the last tier for RVR its impossible to do things well due to the lag due to the huge amount of people lol

I wonder if they'll put a few people from WAR onto DAoC if the Hammer goes under...

Give me DAoC 2! (with the old archery system dammit!)
