Warning about the ASUS 8800GT

That IS the new asus cooler and its definitely a 512Mb card, m8 of mine got his today and thats exactly what it looks like.

most of the manufacturers are switching to this new cooler. Probably due to the number of returned artifacting cards.

I dont see how its heat problems with these returned cards, 80 degrees is by no means going to cause this card to artifact.

The OP does not seem too happy with what he found, but if I ordered that card thinking it was going to be a stock cooler but was that I think I would be pretty happy.

Which actually isn't worth the bandwidth its "printed" on. I'd love to meet with the solicitors that write this stuff and charge for it, it quite frankly bears no relevance in law (que long pointless thread on T&Cs :D), having taken many a supplier to task on similiar claims trust me when I say these T&C's written, notably on issues like this don't help anybody.

However I take the point that its hard to list pictures of everything hence my warning to other folks and I have no beef with OCUK. The card is clearly superior to the other 8800GT cards and I wish the shuttle I had was 35mm wider so it would fit.

Most other card makers as far as I know are not all adding this fan but are adding a wider fan in the stock format.

Regards,
Neil.

You would think there must be a problem if they are going to the trouble to change it. Mine went into the 90's when I had it.

I think the problem with the original cooler is more of an insulator than a cooler. The heatsinks get so hot from the core because the fan is useless so it heats the ram etc rather than cooling it.

There also appears to be a bigger GTS style cooler used on the newer XFX GT.

Well I dunno, It dont take 1 min to force to fan to 40% at which speed its still not loud and results in my max temp around 74 degrees at 700/1800/1000 and I dont have a good case aswell, pretty bad, I have 2 80mm fans at the rear of the side of the case sucking air in, I have 1 at the rear 80mm which sucks air out from the 120mm fan on the CPU cooler, then I took the front covers off the case and put a 120mm (OCZ Vindicator standard cooler) in there and that blows the air onto the ram and cpu cooler hopefully, I also have an 80mm fan at the bottom of my case sucking in.

I'm getting an asus en8800gt for christmas, hope it turns out to be this newer fan as it looks good to me.

OcUK sell it as their pick of the week. It comes with the new cooler and Company of Heroes, total bargain I reckon.

I think the memory does not have coolers because it isn't a OC version, however the large fan shifts quite a bit of air and probably cools them too.

I think that is the reason there's no ram coolers because the fan does spread quite a lot of air over them, they don't get hot at all even the heatsink doesn't get hot I running 3D06 looped right now and it's warm to the touch, I normally watercool my GPU but this one is so quiet I can hear the hard drives over it when it's at full speed, if the Maze 4 wasn't in the loop I would leave the heatsink on it.

I'm not into Nvidia so what would I use to overclock it and measure temps etc?

By the way I'm very impressed with the card and bundle real value for money.

Is this still a single slot cooler then ?

Be a dual id have thought at the size of it, ohh errr. :p

I'm after this card but how the hell did you get it? Everywhere doesn't have stock for it!

They won't now as all Asus cards now have this new HSF, only their GT launch cards had the COH HSF, so only way to get one will be old stocks of launch cards that aint been bought, but GT's were being snapped up on sight.
