Nvidia's high end in 2008

Nvidia's next generation dual PCB card powered by two graphics chips will need two power connectors. The card will need 220W+ to work and a passive two-sided cooler to get rid of the heath.

Just as the R600, D8Enthusiast will need one 4x2 and one 3x2 power connector as it will need more than 200W power. At the same time, the card will support PCIe 2.0 but even these 150W won’t be enough to feed the card.

For the remaining weeks and months of 2007, Nvidia will enjoy the strong sales of Geforce 8800 Ultra and GTX cards and in early Q1, it will be ready with D8E, at least that is the plan.

Oh dear if this is true looks like it could be a repeat of the 2900 :o

Nvidia high end undergoes testing

Nvidia has prototypes of D8E, Enthusiast cards and, it is working hard on a driver for such a beast. This dual chip, dual Printed Circuit Board is something that Nvidia had up in its sleeve for a long time but it was a tough one to make this card with 90 nanometre chip.

The power consumption of 90 nanometre dual chip would be enormous and it is a bit more modest with a dual 65 nanometre card that needs 220+W.

Nvidia has the hardware ready and now it is all about the software as Windows will probably see this card as an SLI setup, but Nvidia might change this, at least if it’s possible.

D8P, Desktop eight generation Performance card now known as 8800 GT will be launched later this month, on the 29th to be more precise and D8E – Enthusiast is the next one but still scheduled for 2008.

Also dual printed circuit board. This card is going to be GX2?!?, I don't like the sound of that TBH, especially if it's SLI setup.

Is this going to be 2 x 8800 GT GPUs??

7950 GX2 -> 8950 GX2...?

They were doing so well and all, with the 8800 series. Aren't they going to give up with SLi?

It seems like from what Fud is saying the card will be a dual GX2 deal. Which scares me :(

It very well could be an 8950GX2

I can understand why they do it, much reduced R&D costs for starters, combined with the economies of scale of making twice as many GPUs, but it doesn't seem to produce the results consistenly enough:-

Game A, supports multi GPU, 60+ fps on a 24" monitor
Game B, doesn't support multi GPU, suddenly it is 25-35 fps and you have a very ordinary card. :(

Why would anybody want to get rid of the heath?

I find them quite pretty and where are the grouse going to live? :D

why give sli up?. Its still the only way to play at 2600X1600 res at playble frame rate. Cost effective it is not but still a valid solution

only 220w? not bad, iv a small generator in the shed which is 450w incase theres power cuts in the house, i could just run two of them cards on it for about a fiver a day :D

It's logical to assume, that with removal of the heath, the heat won't be a problem ;)

If it splits the data up better than SLI has been doing in the past, then it will be a good card. If not... oh dear :(

Spot on hence why I am worried
