Warning: New Thread: MW2 ate my Steam?

I'm trying to install MW2 and I already had steam installed, was looking forward to playing L4D2 (assuming it unlocks, but I got it on preorder).

The MW2 installer seems to have vanished, but my hard drive light's going a bit crazy. Steam seems to be running, but doesn't want to respond to anything I do to poke it.

Is there anything I should be doing at this point?

Been there done that. Started steam again and it's scanning for games updates, but being completely toss at the same time and not actually doing anything.

Bring back the good old days of piracy, I say!

I have seen epic pauses in Steam ~ overnight when installing Crysis Warhead. Complete lock up, no DL speed or anything. In the morning it was finished!

Mines doing the same Jono I presume its unlocking the l4d 2 preload

If it's stuck scanning for game updates it will eventually present you with your games list.

I've had the same problem with one of the other PC's in the house tonight, I just left it for about 30 mins and it was ok.

As much as Valve claim they have the network capacity to cope, sometimes, they quite clearly haven't.

Thanks, that's kind of encouraging

I just wish I knew it was doing *something* useful. I'm going to go out soon, and I kinda hoped I could at least kick off the first DVD or maybe be onto the second before leaving. I'm not sure how long MW2 takes to install. Probably hours.

I wouldn't mind if I could actually play L4D2 in the meantime
