Hey

After my experience today I would like to warn off anyone who is tempted to use the RainX Anti-Fog on the internal glass of their car.

I have used the RainX on the windscreen to repel water for a few months, has worked quiet well so I decided to try the Anti-Fog product because this colder month has shown up an issue I seem to have with fogging of the glass. (like many others)

I cleaned my windows first with an off the shelf window cleaner and then applied this on a microfiber cloth to the internal glass.

I left it for 10-15mins to dry (as it says too), and went to buff it off.

Its all fine, until I noticed when i breathed on the glass it STILL fogged up, and to my horror these odd patterns were appearing in the fog.

I thought.. Oh i must have not removed it, so i tried to clear away these marks, Nothing would shift them.

I got worried, and checked all the internal glass, and found these same marks everywhere.

i decided i would simply remove the AntiFog from the glass useing glass cleaners, and i find that they persist.

I then tried using some IPA on them, Still there.

Just tried some Acetone, Looks like they go until I breath on the glass and boom, they are back.

I run my finger nail over the marks, and it feels rough, as if the marks are etched into the glass.

So from what I can tell, the AntiFog has EATEN the top layer of my glass, and thus ruined it. These marks show up and shout at me when its dark, and lights shine through the glass.. great.

Here are some pics.

Again. DONT RISK IT.

Looks like you have a non glass coating on the interior panes.

What car is it?

Its a Renault Clio 172.

Nothing in the book states this, looks like all the glass is ruined...

What about anti theft film applied to the panes? Check the edge of the panes (wind a window down a bit) and you see the edge of some film?

I think Renaults of that age had some solar reflective coating on the windscreens. My mum had a 52 plate Scenic and it was a weird colour in sunlight.

I've used it before too, never had this.

I'll risk saying something obvious... very cold outside, isn't it... maybe the fluid doesn't like it being cold and has gone a bit odd... I've had plenty of car cleaning stuff go random when its cold outside...

Well. I wasn't to know this. No notice from autoglass saying this and no warning that glass may have this from rainx and to check.

Have contacted Autoglass to let them know their glass has this odd problem, hopefully they replace it.

But how is it Autoglass's problem if they are replacing the screen to the manufacturers specifications but you weren't aware of this film
