You did the right thing in circumstances like this - getting back from time away and walking into a messy house is horrible.
Managed to get wrapped up about five minutes before the parents arrived home, they were pleased to find the house tidy and seemed to have had a good time away, I didn't let on as to what had happened though.
Hey at least a week isn't as bad as when I was a student (oh dear) and one of the guys in our flat made waaay too much boiled pasta, then refused to clean the pot claiming it was someone elses (the other 6 of us that lived there knew better tho!) We kept arguing with him over it and left it for him. He refused to clean it and the mould was pretty much thick enough we could've started our own penicillin manufacturing plant before it got cleaned with industrial strength bleach and binned about 3 or 4 months later!

You deserve a pat on the back for your effort.
Good effort for clearing up; it was definitely the right thing to do. Don't let it slide though. Tell your parents what happened once they've had a chance to settle back in.
i wouldnt have bothered. you did it once, which is one time too many. id have told the parents that i am not clearing up after them, simple as that.
I have an idea... clean up after them every time and prove to them that you're a complete doormat who they can count on to clean up their mess each and every time, while they laugh behind your back. Oh wait, you already are...
Grow a backbone and stop being such a wet. Speak to them and speak to your parents.
