Warranty Direct - 3 year-old car

Just had a look at what the extended warranty is for the C63 as it's warranty expire at the end of this month.

£2,729 for 12 months
£5,400 for 24 months

No excess.

a lot of cheddar IMO. I'll likely just let the wrranty run out and pay for anything thats doing myself. Car has only done just over 15K miles (2018 - 18 plate).
That is insane! Makes you wonder what they are banking on you claiming

Don’t pay any attention to the Mercedes warranty website! I got the same sort of numbers and they contradicted what everyone was telling me they should be. So I called them up and it was less than half the time prices quoted to extend!

That's a crazy amount, my C63 warranty runs out in August 2022 so I hope it's not that much to renew then!

My GTR was 2700 for 2 years renewed week or so ago. New car warranty ends end of April and as said I got those sort of quotes via the website.

I have/had the same dilemma with my X5. I'm not paying BMW £2300 PA for the pleasure and I don't trust 3rd party warranties enough to spend £600-800 worrying about whether or not they'll pay out. So I just decided to not bother renewing and taking my chances, or possibly sell the car.

I took out 3 year warranty with Warrantywise for £1123.

Fuel pump went on my car a couple of months ago, which they paid out for. So ended up costing me the excess and not £600.

I took the policy out after I had a couple of other big failures last year. One was a sized brake calliper that would have been covered but the other was a fuel tank replacement. As the latter is neither mechanical or electrical, it wouldn't be covered.

So a fuel tank fails yet its not covered?

Absolutely ridiculous.

Interesting, thanks. I wonder what the cost of replacing air suspension, gearbox, or god forbid engine is in one of these things?! I could fund it outright but wouldn't enjoy it! But then fear is how insurance makes money :).

If you have air suspension you DEFINITELY want to go with Merc warranty.

It’s potentially a very expensive repair and WD WILL get out of paying :(

Sure, you’ll have legal recourse, but worth the hassle for a difference of £450 a year? Not in my opinion :)

Why are people so scared of air suspension? Mercedes have been routinely fitting airmatic to loads of their cars since the late 90s, it is a very mature and common system with well known and documented issues. Almost all airmatic issues are usually only an issue on older cars.

ABC equipped mercs I get it, but airmatic is a routine system which is well understood these days.

My viewpoint is identical to Mr Fox. Either buy the OEM warranty knowing that it probably isn’t the best option from a strictly financial point of view, but does effectively give you an approved used car experience, or don’t bother at all. A 3 year old car is unlikely to raise anything noteworthy.

At the end of the day, you need to go into these third party warranties with your eyes open and what's included/excluded is clearly set out in their terms and conditions.

Unfortunately, their advertising gives the impression that everything is covered in their comprehensive cover, people don't review the fine print and then get annoyed when a claim is subsequently rejected.

Thankfully the warranty I have covers me for the common mechanical issues associated with my car. Fuel tank is a new design so I shouldn't suffer that issue again (hopefully!)

My Father in Law's E class estate has had nothing but problems with the rear air suspension. If it wasn't for the warranty he would have had to pay out enormous sums of money. The suspension at the rear failed just inside the three year warranty period and so the replacement parts were covered for an additional 2 years. Luckily. He came out 6 months later and the car was leaning over again. Replaced again under the two year parts warranty. Then he walked out in the morning a few months later and yes, the suspension was sagging again. If it was em, I would pay for the extended warranty, but then nothing might happen, what's why it is insurance, not assurance.

Thanks all. Interesting discussion.

I haven't purchased any warranty yet as I'm procrastinating. I'll call Mercedes today and see if I can haggle and if not, will probably self insure and use an independent if anything goes wrong.

What MY / age of car did that happen to?

I only have one experience with WD and it was a poor one...

Purchased a Multitronic A4 a good few years go now and after around 8 months the box packed up. Garage I bought from wasn't interested as it was over 6 months when I bought it (that's another story).

The car was sold with a WD warranty that was meant to cover everything including wear and tear.

I can't quite remember the exact reasons why they didn't cover the costs but I ended up with a £2k bill as they wouldn't cover it. Something to do with another part which had failed causing the failure on the box which wasn't covered under their warranty and therefore invalidated any claim.

I even took it to an independent specialist to write a report that stated the failure was caused purely from the box and was a common fault... Still weren't going to budge!

Never bothered with a third party warranty since and just repair when needed...like most insurers they just tried to wriggle out any way they could not to pay.

On the other hand you read reviews and they do seem to get decent feedback... I guess with anything it's the luck of the draw!

Hey all.

Just to wrap this one up, I called the Merc warranty department and their phone rates were about 35% cheaper than their online system was quoting (?!), so I went with a £42 per month rolling deal which should only increase annual by 3% and I can cancel it at any time.

Seems a good enough deal and I'm happy at that price, which is small enough to forget about and gives more peace of mind over the warranty bandits.

Is the £42 a month a finance agreement or a proper service plan? I suppose Q is, is there a discount for cash!

That's very cheap, what level of cover is that for?

It's half the price of my 5 Series.

Yes the cash option was sub £500 so there was a finance charge for paying monthly (which they billed as a flexibility charge, as it can be cancelled with no penalty at any time).

They only offer one level of cover on the Merc scheme. Zero excess by the way.

What is not insured:

Normal service replacement, consumable
parts and wear and tear items if not specifically
included.

Vehicles that are not roadworthy, non-compliant
with the relevant legislation and that do not have
a valid MOT.

Any defect which existed prior to the start date of
the policy.
