Anyone had any dealings with them? Im thinking about doing it with my ZR, purely because its not long hit 60k and still on the original head gasket which is asking for trouble.

I had a quick read through some of the terms and conditions and what youre covered against and it said something about only paying out to the amount of which youre covered. Does that mean theres a set amount somewhere i didnt see or is it just the amount the policy costs to take out because that was only 260 quid.

also what are their 'networked' garages like?

Just trying to gather some info before i waste money on a warranty thats not even going to fix the car when it needs doing :)

There is no need to purchase a warranty on an older Rover. Put £40 a month away in a bank and get it back out when the head gasket fails.

A years premium would cover a replacement HG, if your that worried why don't you get it done now before it goes and warps the head / cooks the engine, far cheaper.

for the year it would only cost me £266, which i doubt would be enough to cover the head gasket.

i get around that much at the end of the month so i wanted to use it in prep for next year. im away at uni for the moment and the car is just sat at home but will be using it in September this year when i start my second year. i understand that theres a 90 day no claims period for wear and tear, which im going to assume the head gasket falls under. so im trying to play it smart, take out a warranty now which will cover me for the summer so next year so i dont have to pay out any big repair costs if something happens.

saving every month isnt much of an option because money is tight as i get no grants or anything and have to rely on a part time wage for each month which still isnt much.

And you are 100% confident they would pay out for the head gasket if it failed are you? Don't forget there is a contribution towards costs and a £50 excess on WD policies with a car with over 60k on it.

I had the console bushes fail on my skoda and it was supposed to be covered
however warranty direct said because it failed the mot on this then it wasnt covered
absolute disgrace ,how can that be right ,the mot is an obvious time to detect defects

That would be enough if it was a straight change, when's your cam belt due? because you should really change this at the same time and also WD won't cover a snapped cam belt if it's not been serviced correctly.

if the policy states that head gaskets are covered then why not? it wouldnt normally fail due to something else, the head gaskets are ***p so they do just fail. anything else failing as a consequence of that gets repaired too i believe. i cant remember if it has gone over 60k yet or not il have to double check that.

yeah for futures sake i want to replace the cam belt, water pump and thermostat aswell, i dont mind paying out for the parts myself, i can get them relatively cheap anyway

£40 for the headgasket and £99 for a halfords professional tool kit.... that's all you need and a bit of spare time.

i work in *ahem* halfords... anyway so getting tools is not a problem. but i have no garage or enough time to do it. plus id rather get a garage to do a bigger job like that because at least i can complain if something goes wrong in relation to it

I've given up with WD, i've asked them 4 or 5 times to claim and each and every claim has been rejected as 'Fair Wear and Tear'

So instead i'm just putting the cash away in a savings account.

Put some money away every month like Fox suggests.

Chances are, you'll end up with a pile of cash! If the worst happens, you'll have a decent "fix it" fund.

Even if I could get a warranty for my e39 I would not bother tbh.

Its old, I expect things to fail & try to budget for it accordingly.

I put by £300 per month, that said, not just for the car...

Thats bizarre, one of the major selling points of a WD policy is that it covers wear and tear specifically. Are you sure it was WD you were with?

I've had too much coffee, sorry. :p Just you said when, not if. I must have been lucky as I've had 2 K series engines, and both have been solid.

More than can be said about the cars...

And yeah as said, get the cash in the bank and do a DIY repair if it fails. Garages are usually poor with HG changes, they are here anyway. 2 different garages, 2 different friends, both re-failed within 6 months.

I'm positive. I had the SecureCare policy with them (Which isn't the bottom level of cover but the highest available for my car)

From what I can remember i'd asked

Oil Sump Gasket
Track Rod Ends (There was another claim in there too but I cant remember)
Exhaust Manifold developed a blow (Needed a whole new manifold)

There has been something else but I can't remember for the life of me what it was.

Well a couple of people said not to bother too, and the general feeling is that claiming doesnt work much soil do a little more research into it and decide :)

It is a casr of when it goes, i plan on keeping it through uni so no doubt itl pop at some point.

Why 'when it does go?' Not all do, some are original (as mine were) and nearly on 100k.

Join up on forums.mg-rover.org and ask for some tips on how to prevent it - we have a lot of guys that used to work at Rover there.

Edit: Just read, it's only on 60k? And you think it's a dead cert it's going to fail?
