Was 1987 the greatest year for movie releases?

So I'm just chilling watching Evil Dead 2 and noticed it was released in 1987, and having watched Lethal Weapon the other week (also 1987) can anyone think of a better year for movie releases? Off the top of my head:

Predator
Robocop
Platoon
Full Metal Jacket
The Untouchables
Lethal Weapon
Evil Dead 2
Good Morning Vietnam
Spaceballs
The Princess Bride
Hellraiser
Raising Arizona

and many more. Thoughts?

1994 was an awesome year too. Pulp Fiction, Forrest Gump and Shawshank redemption being noticeable stars.

1993 was great too.

I'll side with @robfosters with 1994 and add Toy Story, The Mask and Dumb and Dumber to the list.

Although 1982 is a strong contender with:

Blade Runner
ET
First Blood
The Thing
Gahndi
Conan
Tron
The Dark Crystal
etc.

80's to early 90's the best.

Not just for movies, but for everything in western civilization.

You watch those movies and it brings back memories of how things were and people's attitudes, and you realise how ****** everything is today.

Anyway sorry for putting a downer on this thread.

1999 was decent too, some might crossover into 2000 for the UK

Fight club
Matrix
American pie,
American beauty
The green mile,
The sixth sense
Eyes Wide Shut
Being John Malkovich
Cruel Intentions
The bone collector
Bicentennial Man
Galaxy Quest
South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut - Went to see this 5 times.. :)
Toy Story 2
The Insider
The Talented Mr. Ripley

94 and 82 could both be in with a shout I suppose, but the sheer number of excellent films released in 87 puts it in front for me :)
Cruel Intentions
Always preferred Dangerous Liaisons myself - and that's despite thinking Sarah Michelle Geller as a brunette was 10/10 :p

Not sure about that really. The 80's was pretty grim for a lot of people.

It was great for me, as I was a kid so had the benefit of actually being allowed out to play at a young age, unlike a lot of kids now.

But certainly New York and London in the 80's were absolute **** holes.

1977 wasn't bad

Close Encounters o the Third Kind
Star Wars: Episode IV
Capricorn One
A Bridge Too Far
The Duellists
Smokey & the Bandit
Saturday Night Fever
Suspiria
Orca
The Hills Have Eyes
Cross of Iron
