Was David Coulthard a good driver?

Here's another take on itWho today is an equivalent driver to Coulthard? Mark Webber perhaps? Another greatest driver never to win a WDC?
Is compare him more to Nico Rosberg, decent driver but prone to making the odd mistake when it counts. Solid performer but nothing particularly noteworthy.

Yep I'd go for Webber. Pretty talented driver, nice guy but just happened to have lots of bad luck at Williams and Jaguar and up against one of the eventual all time greats at Red Bull in Vettel.Here's another take on it

He was a decent driver, but often involved in too many incidents. I think hakkinen overshadowed him though.
Webber is better than DC, purely for me because Webber actually could have won the title in 2010 had Red Bull supported him. They could have easily have looked after webber in the final few races and guaranteed Webber the title. Instead they did all they could to make sure it didn't happen.
DC never got so close to the title despite driving what should have been championship winning cars for two teams. Williams and Mclaren.
Another part of me knows he did better against Mika before they had a title winning car and Ron did his level best to put him in his place. As I've said with other drivers that has to kill your motivation.
My absolute favourite DC clip is him bleating to frank in 94 that his foot hurt from pushing the pedal when given his chance. I thought that was odd for a driver and a nice touch that they put it in the 94 season review
No doubt sky will poach him, his manager is MB so everyone gets a nice cut.

if were honest DC at his peak was about as good as schumacher is now

I think he was better than Mika, well originally, but he had to race Ferrari/Schumie in their glory years, and beating someone who has a car/skill combination to win the championships Schumie did was never going to be easy...

He had his moments:
Just not consistent enough over a season. Even in 1999 he couldn't capitalise on MS's absence from the title race (throwing it into the wall at the Nurburgring and Suzuka comes to mind).
Does he still drive for Mucke Motorsport in DTM?
He was good enough to survive in F1 for a number of years , so imo rates him higher than 99.99 % of other drivers out there.
He was pretty well ****** by Williams (due to timing) and McLaren because of Ron's feelings for Mika after his accident, but still fought out a decent career at three leading teams while competing against the best drivers of the time.
Think DC is a better commentator /presenter than he was a driver though (which shows how well I think he does infront of the cameras)
