I didnt just pull out in front of him. He was still a few cars behind. I just positioned my car over abit. (arched over) technically i think he still could have undertook me as i didnt go in the cycle lane.

Still a few cars behind what? So there was a stream of traffic now? How could he undertake you if you hadn't even moved into the cycle lane? You mean he could HAVE turned left down the road you were turning out of and u-turned around you?

i was using the cars distance as a refrence. he was in the cycle lane and the equivilant to a few cars back.

Its a bad junction, but you should have just taken up the cycle lane.

Excuse the slightly off scale of the cars

The 'car' with the indicators is the OP, he's stopped there as there is no room behind the car waiting to turn left without blocking things off.

Someone else has then driven from behind the OP down the left to put themselves where the pink car is.

The OP nudged out as they were doing this, causing the other party to slam their brakes on as they probably thought he was about to pull out.

Ah, I see.

It's a bad junction, but you should have crossed the dotted line if you were planning to turn left. There's nothing to stop you blocking the cycle lane if you need to turn left.

By arching out, if I was the other car, I'd assume you were a poor driver and slam on my brakes too.
