Strip all feelings back and personal experiences aside and read/contribute this discussion from a completely none biased view. Dont compare it to other games.

Considering what WoW has to offer:

Freedom to roam
Polish
Huge open land
Easy to learn combat
Massive amounts of customization
Good PvP

And many more

If WoW was being released today and you knew nothing about this game, what would be your opinion?

I don't get your last line .

As for the rest of it:
It's the best stab at one so far, there is room for improvement but for what it has achieved as a community it's a good grounding.

Token EVE mention too, for the community to player ratio. If WoW had the community of EVE then WoW would be even better and may have lasted longer into TBC.

I dunno Everquest for me especially the raiding side is better and the world just seemed so much bigger, it would take days to run from one side to the other.

I'd probably play it for a year then drop it.
It's good, and it's probably the best MMO out there at the moment in my opinion, but I think it's far from the ultimate.
Reasons:
- Unbalanced PvP
- Too much of a focus on grinding
- PvE raiding that requires serious commitment to get to the endgame

ok the last 3 replies have been pretty poor. No offence.

Spirit and Jon, im not asking for comparisons, im asking would this game appeal to you and if so why?

Maybe i wasn't clear in my OP, i'll edit it.

And Russ your bringing past experience into it and i asked for an un biased opinions.

The fact that an endgame exists at all is a bit of a downer.

The only thing i think WOW does well is the skill tree's in that it offers some variation. TO many MMO's have classes all with identical powers, who get the same gear and armour and its just dull. The trouble with WOW is the sheer arrogance of it, you can't be the "wrong" spec'd out class as people think you suck because you haven't made the right choices, and people all act like you have to play the same way or you suck, this is the same for most MMO's though. You get people who insist you play the way that suits them best, as opposed to a way thats fun or interesting in a style you enjoy.

Then Wow's biggest flaw is, it really has ZERO story, at all. Theres a back story, the kingdom is under attack, oh noes, the horde. But you never actually play the main story line. Go collect 8 claws from something, come back, ad nauseum till the end. Lotro at least has a main story line.

Although in saying that, it has multiple starting points and generally you can miss out quests and level up a alt with fairly different quests, but multiple times and you do the same boring side missions over and over again and its dull. Lotro suffers by basically doing everything identically with any new alt so its incredibly boring to play through again, though WOW is too just takes a tad longer before you redo all the quests.

Combat might be easy to pick up, but its uninvolved and boring. I want something i can aim properly and hit because i can aim well rather than click a button have a calculation done and decide if i hit it or not.

Raiding/rep grinding all that crap is entirely pointless. Its fake lengthening of a game in the same way racing games instead of adding more tracks, just do same tracks backwards or mirrored, its a joke.

If I was looking to buy a new MMO around now and WoW was about to be released I don't think I'd bother as I would also be looking at AoC

EQ2 is very good imo, apparently WoW is fully of little kids mostly from what I hear and its going down the pan.

Oh my god, i didn't ask for comparisons, i just asked for your personal feelings and opinions about WOW if it was being released today and you knew nothing about the game.

Is that too hard to ask for?

One thing WoW has been good for is being able to solo your way to the max level, i know it may seem anti social or against the point of a MMO but having to find a group to grind levels with in other MMO gets frustrating very quickly

I'm just wondering what do you class massive amounts of customisation and good pvp as in WoW?

Customisation:

Interface, Addons, armour, clothing, weapons, characters

to name but a few.

WoW's easy combat makes for fun pvp, it may not be the best, because you cant loot players and the honor grind blah blah, but if you strip it back, easy combat + lag free gaming = fun pvp.
