Evening Guys,

I recently had a child and a relative very kindly bought us a new Washer/Dryer to replace our Hotpoint. We decided on the Samsung QuickDrive WD10N84GNOA which worked well till January when a leak started under the door. Samsung have been out 3 times to fix and 2nd wash since the fix it stared again. I have contacted John Lewis who are going to speak to Samsung to arrange a refund etc.

So I am now looking for another Washer/Dryer, does anyone have any recommended brands to go with?

It needs to be a Washer/Dryer due to living in an apartment with one slot. We also liked the 10kg wash capacity of the Samsung and the Wife uses the 15 minutes wash a lot.

Thanks,
Matt

That is one expensive present:eek:

Surprised to hear the samsung failed though, i bought a much cheaper samsung washing machine last month and it seems to be working well.

Self confessed Bosch fan here and I've recently just bought one of their fine washing machines. Have a look here if you want to see their 10KG washer dryers.

You mention the 15 minute quick wash is used a lot. You do realise that these programs are designed for small and very lightly soiled clothes? A lot of people think that they can wash up to the machine's full capacity and expect their clothes to be clean. In reality their 10KG loads have been dampened, agitated, dampened again and a very brief spin.

I've been deeply researching Samsung appliances due to issues I have been having with my fridge, and the general consensus seems to be that Samsung washing machines are pretty good (we have one too), but their washer/dryers are plagued with issues.

Samsung or LG.

Our Samsung is getting on to around 4 Years old now, as if it were brand new apart from the usual limescale fun of Northants :)

I know if I bought it personally I wouldn't of spent anywhere near that. The last Hotpoint I spent all of £350 and was faultless for 6 years.

The 15 minute wash is a god send when the kid has thrown up or just got messy. We dont use it anywhere loaded maybe for one or two items. Regular wash we just left it on Auto and leave it to it.

As a machine the Samsung was flawless but failed spectacularly holding water in the drum.

+1 for Bosch. I've got a Serie 6 washer dryer and it's great. My kitchen doesn't have a door, and opens straight on to the lounge/diner, so a quiet & smooth spin speed was a primary requirement. Mine is 'only' 7KG wash/5KG dry but I've found that to be plenty for my needs.

So far we have decided on the Bosch WDU28560GB or AEG L9WEC169R

One issue we have with the Bosch is it cant lock the control panel? It can lock the door but not the panel?

Bosch is just a name. They don't make anything themselves.

BSH Hausgerate, a joint venture initially by Bosch GmbH and Siemens AG, now fully owned by Bosch GmbH, with a workforce of 61,000 people and 42 factories worldwide, doesn't make anything themselves? LG and Samsung don't make anything either for the same reasons - their many subsidiaries do.

I think the new big thing with washer driers is heat pumps. We have an expensive Samsung one wd80 series, and as a washer it's great but as a drier it's very poor (coming from a dedicated vented drier). Stuff just doesn't dry and for such an expensive item (I believe we paid twice as much for this as we did for our old tumbler) it doesn't have anti crease, when the drying cycle finishes that it. Also on a tangent, does anyone know how much water they normally use when tumbling?

UPDATE

After nearly a month Samsung finally agreed it was beyond repair. Since first posting they refused a refund and arranged for another engineer to come out, I said to the repair company im fine if you want to come out but what will you replace as you've replaced most of it? To which the repair company agreed and spoke to Samsung. This is where it all went quiet and Samsung refused to do anything. It took my credit card company to write to them and threaten them to get a resolution. With no replacement in stock I took the refund option, which then took them another 2 weeks to collect the machine. God knows when this refund will appear.

So what did we go for? We chose in the end the AEG L9WEC169R as it was even cheaper to run than the Samsung, cost less and came with a 5 year warranty. Gave it its first run and it did the job, drying was good with the heat pump as clothes didn't come out with a damp feeling, but came out dry and very cool (Instead of roasting hot). All in all we're happy with the machine it suits the kitchen better and with £100 cash back and £30 through AO we saved a good chunk of money. I know you all said Bosch but in the end we preferred the look of the AEG and the features it offers.

Samsung really dropped the ball in product quality and customer service, which is a shame as I always thought there appliances were highly regarded.

Our dedicated Condenser tumble dryer just died randomly looks like a control board. So we have been looking at replacing both with a washer dryer and had been looking at Samsung so thank's for your post it's certainly made me think twice regarding the customer service.
