Washing machine woes

hi, I often find having to empty the bottom container in my washing machine
probably every 5/7 washes is that normal? It gets full of dirty water.

I think water is collecting there because the angle of the waste hose is really atrocious and I suspect dirty water comes back on itself.

I have the same problem with the dishwasher waste pipe and I've noticed that it actually smells a bit when the dishwasher or washing machine is running. (i think the flow outside looked okay though)

im thinking of opening up both pipes (they connect to the waste pipe under the sink and have jubilee clips on) giving them a good clear out and then drafting a plan on how to better angle both waste pipes. When i got my machine I had some hose clip clamp thing where the hose runs along the thing but I think I might have misplaced that plastic thing

do you have any tips or ideas on how to fix this? must be a common problem in a lotta kitchens
typical installers taking short cuts and now im suffering

thanks

Is it kinked? Going up hill shouldn't be an issue as the water is pumped out. Have you cleaned the lower filter?

i don't think it is kinked. I will double check

I don't have a u bend installed at all

I think the filter is good - is it normal for water to fill up there?

Yeah it'll have a bit behind the filter. I don't have mine going to a u-bend either, it just pumps to a waste pipe. Is your waste at the right drop?

how do I know if its at the right drop?

i didntunderstand what that means. u mean the height of the waste pipe under the sink?

What is causing you feel it needs emptying? That chamber will always be full of water AFAIK, it's part of the setup. How dirty is the water that drains out?

If it’s draining correctly you don’t have to empty it, there will always be water in it. You only need to empty it if it gets blocked up with fluff/screws/hair clips/whatever and the pump stops pumping out when the machine wants to drain.

If it really smells then it could be backfilling due to a bad waste pipe setup.

Worth putting some dr Beckmann or dettol wash safe through it and doing some hot washes for the smell. The amount of bacteria that builds up in washing machines is shocking, definitely worth running cleaning stuff.

You might need to add a self-sealing waste valve (aka "fanny traps") to stop waste water travelling back into your machine.

Do you have any photos of your pipework now?

earlier thread V this has always caused some accumulation of smelly sink water at the low point in the washer exit pipe loop, which gives some smell when washer is used every 3-4 days; have never got round to moving waste feed to feed into (higher) small sink outlet.

so that's the hook in I have for washing machine (left)
that, then dips down, before rising back to wash machines entry point.
this definitely causes some back flow of sink waste into washing machine tube, that gets pushed out(smells in sink) when machine is used. ...
need a one way 'valve' ???

Get a photo up: someone will correct me but it's something like a 2cm drop for every meter. It isn't much at all but if it's angled straight or worse, tipping back into the machine, it could result in this.

I always try to get waste hoses higher than half full sink, non returns valves are okay for dishwashers but collect fluff to easily for a washer so best avoided.

As others have said there will always be some water in filter housing as pump can only work when water both sides (sump hose and waste hose) once it stops any water remaining in waste will drop to level.

I use one of these every month in my washing machine while running the Tub clean cycle.

My washing machine normal does around 50 cycles per month, if you use the machine less then this then i would only use a cleaner every 2 months
