Washing Machines - What to Look for?

Our washing machine has hit a wall after my wife punched it around 2 years ago and after having to use a key to use certain buttons its now given up altogether meaning we're stuck on only one program mode.

Not really sure what I need to be looking for though and what makes to go for. Beko seem to have a lot which on the face look good and quite gadgety however I’ve always considered Beko to be a cheap make and not sure about reliability of them.

This one appears to be alright, however I can’t find anything on the Hoover website about it, their website seems to have a new line suggesting this could be an old discontinued model. Hence the discounts.

This LG one also looks quite gadgety which I like the look of but not sure if gadgety = good as far as a washing machine goes!!

Anyone got any input, I’m fairly sure our current washer has an 8kg load so that would be best probably.

May as well just put it in the FAQ and then we don't have to read about washing machines and their technological progress (damn Italians!) over the last 40 years from dimple.

"The Official Home Appliance Thread" might put an end to all these spec me a large xxxxxxxx (insert colour) box with a lead threads.
 
dont go for one of the huge drum machines :@ they are a right hassle and seem shred the carbon pad things, they struggle to balance them selfs aswell
 
Had a beko from the curries sale lasted us a year until we got an integrated one it has since been running fine for the last 5 years in my brothers kitches

Currently have a cheap as chips hotpoint (that and a dishwasher for £250 as a deal with our kitchen) has been going strong for 5 years only time it's missed a beat was when a sock blocked the filter. (dishwasher has never skipped a beat)

Modern kitchen appliances are generally ridiculously reliable so just buy what you can afford seriously this isn't an aspirational purchase nobody else will even notice it unless you point it out.

Recently bought one of these in black.
Not skipped a beat yet but depends if you need a dryer too or not?

Go into a store and have a look, you'll get a better deal than buying straight off the web.
 
I got a new washer at the weekend (bought it on 27th December and "next-day delivery" finally arrived on Saturday) :D

was reduced to £189 though (that's why it took so long for delivery).

Thrilled to bits with it so far - it's great! Have been experimenting with all its different modes (I'm a geek, but I'm a girl). And really happy that I got a £349 washer for £189 :D
