Wasps Nest in Loft

Hi,

So last time I was in the loft earlier in the year, this wasn't there... it's a large football sized wasp nest (and some extreme cobwebs):eek::eek:

Any suggestions on how to defeat this? The loft is not boarded so have to be careful where you step, which means I'd probably die if I approached it and had to do a quick escape.

Is this the kind of thing that will be 100% wasp free if I wait till winter and get rid of it? Or should I get a pro in if it might cause damage?

Unless you are getting rid of it for a specific reason such as impending work in that exact area, I wouldn't bother removing it. A wasp nest only lasts as long as the queen who began it, so if it's old (unless you have a wasp problem then it is old) there is no need to touch it. It won't be inhabited again.

:edit: hang about, are those wasps in the picture? If so then if then the main aim should be to deal with them if they're a nuisance, but that's normally best done by planting a poison at an a common entry/exit point and allowing them to take it with them in to the nest. Removal of the nest isn't necessary at all to deal with the wasps.

Thanks, yes it's definitely active now and they are flying around in the loft however so far at least haven't escaped elsewhere or caused a problem. So I guess i'm happy leaving it as long as it won't triple in size or something? then I'd need napalm.

Just had the same thing

ours was active, discovered it when i went in the loft to find something and got swarmed by them. Ended with 3 stings on the face and one on my
Gum as a wasp flew in my Mouth (This hurt a lot)

we got the council round cost £35 and they sprayed it. To make sure I went up And hosed it down with 4 cans of wasp killer and then hoovered the dead nest up later that day. Ours was right by the loft hatch so it had to go!

leave..it's the wasps house now.

we had one in the back garden and just called a local pest control company he sprayed it then took it away. think it cost around £40 ish if i mind right.

Can you still get those spray foam cans of wasp killer- lift up the hatch and fire off a stream of foam onto the nest.

So far if there is any wasps I just leave them alone except for the scouts who invade the kitchen - They get the swotter.

I used this on a wasps nest in my wall cavity last week. Needed a few sprays to completely stop the wasps as I only had access to the entrance and not the whole nest. I'm pretty sure you could spray that whole nest from the loft entrance and then retreat and it'd get done in one treatment. It sprays a couple of metres - not as far as the advertising suggests, but enough to safely retreat.

As others have said, unless the wasps are bothering you or there is another good reason I'd just leave it.

I had one a few years ago. It was the size of a beach ball. I got stung by one and crapped my kegs!

I got a local pest guy and they sprayed it and all was well. Amazing looking nests to be fair. I had some golf ball nests this year and they got sprayed straightaway as I was boarding the loft at the time.
