Wasteland 3 announced for Crowdfunding!

Quite liked No 2 but crowdfunding? Really?
Is this now just a way a reducing corporate risk by asking Joe Public to foot the dev bill?

Meh inXile are a good studio producing top quality games, if keeping it out of publisher pressures is the main aim then I'm all for it, the amount of rubbish being pushed out lately hasn't changed my view. It's $33 dollars for a pre-order to help produce the game.

Iirc they also put something like $5m plus of their own money into Wasteland 3 which for an indie studio is a fair amount I imagine.

I think so many companies are going this way, thinking it through they are basically getting to make their games completely free then pocketing all the profit. Zero to very little outlay then keep the profits.... stinks to me.

Well no they'd have to go to a publisher instead for the funds and therefore give them a slice of the sales. In addition anyone who backs is essentially a lost sale come release since a copy is included.

What is everyone's problem with crowdfunding?...it is a model that worked for them before and they are putting pretty much all of the money they made in to it anyway. I don't know much about fig tbh, but it is part owned by Brian Fargo apparently, so it is no surprise it is on there.

I don't see an issue.

With the site they're using you have the option to invest rather than just pledge like with Kickstarter, I'm unsure what the minimum investment amount is and haven't looked too closely at the details but you can invest and profit if it is successful game. You'd need to look at the business model to know more.

Got WL2 but not played it yet (too many games, not enough time).

Think I'm going to wait for this to come out & read the reviews before I buy.
