Watch Dogs 2

Far Cry 4, AC:Syndicate, Far Cry Primal, The Division, R6 Siege. The recent AAA catalogue has been pretty damn good and if people want to get upset over differences between expo builds and release, well you enjoy yourselves next week, I've got games to play (and make) :)

Yeah probably best to gloss over the **** that was Unity.

Why do Ubisoft do this though? Make the showreels a high fidelity and then dial it all back. Obviously if the consoles can't produce the visuals then that's that but if the PC can do it, why not leave that level of detail in?

I'll give you Watch Dogs, but that was a turning point internally. The Division delivered.

I recently rewatched the gameplay previews they showed off at previous E3s and significant amounts of content and gameplay mechanics were quite plainly cut from the final game. The previews showed off a far deeper, more involving game than just "Shoot enemies for five minutes then loot their bodies".

I enjoy playing The Division but lets not pretend Ubisoft's theme with these vast, open-world titles isn't to promise a lot then realise they were being over-ambitious with what they could achieve.

The only thing I remember that was cut was the tablet controlled drone thing?

Anyway, game developements is a process of compromise. Designers and artists saying "we should do this, and THIS and THIS" and programmers saying "dear god no, NO, NO!"

Unity had a lot of launch problems but once they were fixed it was still a good game.

Can't say I agree. At the point I last played it (a year or so ago after giving it a second chance) the frame rate was still atrocious. It's probably never been fixed.

Ubisoft were rightly absolutely panned for the release, it was a joke.

Hmm, so you play as a black guy... potentially not the best marketing move ever by Ubisoft.

Wonder if that'll hurt sales in the long run.

In fairness though, San Andreas didn't do so badly.

mid gen your post count is going to sky rocket now! ;)

I'm going to hold judgement of WD2 but continue to have my low expectation of games these days as its a nice surprise when some turn out good!

Watch Dogs was a shambles and a bore fest, Rainbow Six was a pile of dog mess and had the same downgrade tactics as WD's. I'll admit The Division was a good looking game but it still lacked some graphical features seen in the original gameplay.

Have Ubisoft changed enough since WD? We shall see but my low expecting gut feeling says no! :D

I've fallen for the Ubisoft hype enough too many times, I've learned my lesson, I'll wait it out until after launch.

Remains to be seen if Vivendi get anywhere, not a done deal by any means.

Liked the WD2 video, the main protagonist seems a lot better than that unlikeable douchebag Aiden Pearce

I think there was a decent game underneath some awful character writing and poor visuals...not enough for me to persevere with it though. Sequel has a big Mr Robot vibe which is a good thing in my book, hope they can nail it this time as there was a lot of potential.
