Watch gurus

Hey all,

I know there's definitely some watch lovers on here so I wondered if you could recommend me a watch

Short story got burgled while back and have just received a gemcheck card with a value of £500 on it. My birthday is next Friday so going to throw a little bit of money in. So I have £800 to spend but not too sure what to get.

I don't want it to be too fancy with hundreds of dials, but does need to look nice

So far out of the ones I've seen, I do like the TAG Heuer Aquaracer's, and a few of the Raymond Weil series.

Any help/recommendations is greatly appreciated.

I moved away from divers style watches when I treated myself to a Rado Diastar last year. It is more of a dress watch though.

Pretty sure the general consensus will be to avoid the likes of TAG.

TBH at that price it does come down to personal choices in terms of style etc, no 800 quid watch will be an investment so best to buy what you like the look of

the ones I suggested will also give a quality of movement which justifies the price

very much so, unfortunately it looks like a insurance voucher type of thing so he will prob have to buy new and also end up paying RRP

It's a Gemcheck card so only certain shops will take it. Don't think they do second hand Omega's unfortunately.

The Oris ones look nice Rotty.

Rotty- heard/seen anything of invicta watches? They get reasonable reviews and look pretty much exactly like Rolex replicas to me....someone I know just bought a Toy Watch Company watch that looks like a Daytona but in white plastic (yeah I know !!!)

She now wants a Submariner look-a-like without it being a fake, another Toy Watch Company one and anywhere near the cost.

Invicta look like a good candidate...

You can afford a nice omega, get one of those they are lovely.

Cheapest Omega is around £1000.

I could max up at £1300 if I really wanted to, but there would have to be good reasons to spend another £500

ive had my eye on Raymond Weil for a while now as they do some nice styles, for your sort of price range your gonna be limited to the ones rotty has said. ive always had a soft spot for oris and i have these 2

the top one i managed to pick up for £600 from £1200 as i was very lucky

the other oris was about £480. It depends on what style your after but i have a prefrence for Divers

Fortis is another watch maker with some nice ones, id stay away from the Tag's though, its just a shame you couldnt have a second hand watch as youd get a rather nice Seamaster for tht price :cool:
