Ive always wanted a Tag Heuer Monaco watch, and they have just released this:

New TAG Heuer Limited Edition Monaco Vintage Gulf Watch
Model Number: CW211A.FC6228
This New Limited Edition TAG Heuer Monaco Vintage Gulf watch is an update of the iconic TAG Heuer Monaco Vintage. This latest version remains true to the original classic design while still looking thoroughly modern with the blue, orange and black colour scheme and Gulf logo at 6 o' clock. Originally made famous by Steve McQueen in his 1970's film 'Le Mans', the TAG Heuer Monaco watch has become a cornerstone of the TAG Heuer collection. The Monaco Vintage Gulf Edition has a polished and fine brushed steel case with a curved anti reflective plexiglass. It has a steel caseback with stamped vintage decoration. The dial features two counters at 3 o' clock and 9 o' clock with orange hands & a date window at 9 o' clock. The hour and minute hands are luminescent along with the hand applied faceted indexes. The pictured New TAG Heuer Vintage Gulf Edition Monaco watch comes on a black alligator strap with orange stitching with a polished steel folding clasp with safety pushbuttons. Only 4000 of these watches will ever be released worldwide

Just wondering what other peoples opinions on this were, because i know we have a few regular watch fanatics here. Rotty being one i think.

Cheers

FFS , for how long are Tag going to milk the monaco stuff

re the watch, it's a perfectly acceptable watch if it cost about a third of what it does

Tag do not make watches, they do not make movements ( except a few specials ) , most of their watches are not even made in Switzerland, they are a design and marketing company who charge vast amounts for average watches

Not too bad, prefer the original though.

I do like the origional monaco, but i dunno....this has that something extra. when i saw it, i thought "WOW"

Ive never had a nice watch, and ive always wanted a Tag Monaco, and being a limited edition like this, i see it more as an investment :)

Buy a nice watch then instead of a Tag :)

Ive looked at ones like Breitling, Omega, Tissot, but the Tag range just has something that draws me too it.

They seem to hold their value well, and Id be hoping this Tag lasts me a long time.

Tags have appalling depreciation although the Monaco is better than some, if you want an historic watch on a strap with great residuals then look no further than Panerai, I have had mine 2 years and yesterday was offered 85% of what I paid for it new

her's an example of a monaco

this is a dealer, so private sale or p/ex would be around £1000, thats a residual value of 45% and, as I say these hold their value better than most Tags

I'd be tempted by the Master Compressor Geographic personally, although I'm not really a JLC man myself. Dead set on an IWC Spitfire though, but cannot decide between the plain or chronograph one.

deal at the moment is to p/ex mt Panerai 104 and £700 for the JLC

dunno if the JLC would be a bit small for my liking though

opps this is not for the Geographic , the geo is £14k though ( 9k in steel but that has the black dial and I like the silver )

Go try it on :D. I would probably find Panerai a bit big for my wrists. Around 40mm would be just right for me. I do love the look of the Panerai 104 though.

Ive looked at panerai and nearly died when i saw the prices ;) £2500 is my top line. They look a bit....ordinary too.

That Tag looks ok but thats not one of the better Monaco's is it. It looks a bit boring also.

£2500 will get you a new Panerai

if you must buy a Monaco buy 2nd hand and don't pay any nore than 50% of RRP

I only showed that Monaco to point out the depreciation to you, they are all as bad

this is the most popular one

again private sale, p/ex would be no more than 45-50% of new price

th=his one would be £2800 with the extra strap , they are selling for £1595 , real world price for a private seller would be around £1200

Rotty, How long do you think id have to wait to get a Gulf one for 50% of the price?

Will they depriciate that much given that they are limited to 4000?

10 minutes :p ;)

4000 is hardly limited, IMO they will struggle to sell that many

if you buy one new then you want at least 20-25% off RRP and it will drop to around 50% within 3 months, age makes little differnence with used watches once they are more than a few months old
out of interest, knowing that the components are no better than a £500 watch , that it is made of bought in cparts and possibly assembled in Asia ( none of it by Tag ) and that it will depreciate like hell what makes you want to buy one ?

this is a serious question, I'm not trying to wind you up or anything :)
