Watchdog [Broadband survey results]

What a totally pointless survey. It's pretty obvious that BT were going to come top. Means absolutely nothing apart from there are some pretty daft people working for the BBC/Watchdog.

As far as I can see trying to compare broadband offerings is a waste of time, I hear as many horror stories about each and every supplier. I think they are all much of a muchness and if your lucky you get no problems (like me with BT) and if you are unlucky you get problems!

My inlaws use Tiscali and apart from 3hours downtime in 3years, they haave had no other problems, although it is a little slow.
Friends use Virgin and have had no problem.
My parents are with Orange, and when they were freeserve, - great no problems, Wanadoo, were fantastic, quick no downtime.

Orange = shocking, regular disconnects but quick.

I signed up for Sky TV and Broadband in the new year when i bought my new house.
Engineer could fine a line of signal for the TV due to huge trees, so had to cancel TV and broadband. and only today has my line become clear from LLU left by sky since 10th Jan.

My mate is on sky and only connects at 1mb and is paying for 16mb, although i can not comment on the connect speed as i never used it.

The broadband survey's are generally a waste of time.
For every single ISP for every complaint I'll find you five people who are happy beyond belief with the same ISP.
For every person who champions their own ISP we'd be able to find five who would rubbish them.
You canot rely on survey's to pick your next ISP - you've really just got to get in there, take a chance and be prepared to move on if you need to.

I've been using Nildram for ages.
Since ADSL Max was released I've connected at 8mb.
I regularly see 750kbps+ transfer rates and couldn't be happier with them.
As I don't use P2P on a regular basis (because you only really need a Linux distribution every now and again and I don't thieve) then the issue of shaping traffic to give P2P lower priority is fine by me.

I game, browse & download extremely quickly and without any connection issues.
However I'm sure I could find five vocal people who woule tell me their Nildram experience was different.
I am watching things however - Virgin are frontrunners to take over Pipex and as Pipex own Nildram that could be an issue as I've "heard" bad things about Virgin.
However once again it's only what I've "heard" and probably again only from a vocal minority.

Very true, it's basically a pot-luck whether you get good service or not. I had terrible experiences with BT and have had great service from Tiscali. I know lots of people have had it the other way. These tables will never really mean anything!

they didnt come out on top, if you bothered to look at "TABLE 4 - PROPORTIONAL SATISFACTION RANKING" they are only just in the top twenty

But their cable broadband is very good. ADSL was over subscribed.

All things considered Enta is a very good provider. Otherwise fast.co.uk have low caps and high prices with a constant good connection (according to people at TBB.)

I think some of you are reading the wrong table??? I see Tiscali and BT in the later 10 rather than top portion of the tables.
TABLE 4 - PROPORTIONAL SATISFACTION RANKING is the one to look at not the first one which is just a sum of total votes.

Nothing like jumping to conclusions?

Exactly... just ignore Table 1 and 2.

What a botched up survey! I want my licence fee money back. :(
Reminds me of an advert saying 77% in our survey said this, when they only asked 47 people.

Tesco only recieved 555 complaints but when I used my mates Tesco 2MB broadband it was only half the speed of my BT 2MB connection. Perhaps some customers don't know when their being ripped off.
