Watches: Opinions on Poljot

Further to the very helpful advice that has been dispensed on GD on watches I have been investigating and deciding which watch I would like to splash on...

Basically, I have selected a CMC high-quality diving watch which I will buy in a month or so (there is a diving convention in April and I don't see the point of spending £350 on a watch until I have picked up and budgeted for some new diving kit to go with it...) and I am yet to decide on what 'dress watch' I will go for but I am not going to buy it for a few months...

I've been looking at the Poljot watches and think that they are an interesting and not too expensive alternative in the mean-time - their styling seems different enough to many other brands that they are interesting... I was just wondering what our watch-fiends who stalk this forum thought of them...

I know that at least one person has commented that they seem like an interesting choice but I am wondering what the reputation of such watches are, and their potential reliability etc...

They look nice, but im not sure what the reliability of them are, I would wait till rotty comes along or another watch buff.

not my cup of tea. if i did own one i'd have to wear circular or half moon spectacles, braces on my trousers and brown shoes on my feet

I was considering buying a Poljot a couple of weeks ago. A guy I work with has one of the aviators with which he is very impressed. It has a rather nice automatic movement which keeps time well and the watch both looks and feels very solid. People are put off by the fact it is made in Russia, I don't know why either as they appear to me to be great watches for the money.

I almost bought one but opted for a Vostok-Europe watch. Avoid the standard 'Vostok' watches as they are quite cheap and badly made. The Vostok Europe range is nice and I'm very happy with my Rocket N1. Check them out at www.vostok-europe.com
They're a bit cheaper too.

Not a very good reason says the bloke whos been diving for 17 years, and a mix diver for 8.

This thread is about Poljot watches. I think his mind is made up about the diving watch. Surely if you want a watch to wear whilst diving, a 'Diving Watch' would be the sensible choice? What reason do you need to own a diving watch, 17 years expereince? If I want a watch to wear when I'm flying, I use an aviators watch. It makes sense :p

Now I am really tempted by the vintage chronograh's, namely the "Poljot 17". Nice change from the busy watch faces around at the moment. :)

If he's buying it as a piece of jewelry then thats fine, but if he thinks he needs a watch to go diving then he's been badly advised. You don't use a watch nowadays whilst diving, you use dive computers and/or DTimers.

well people knock them, but i bought a vostock automatic (breitling blue copy) 3 years ago and wear it virtually every day. never missed a beat. funnilly enough it was via a link on these forums. russian watches (or something like that) it turns out the guy only lives in Nottingham. only paid £38 delivered.

I wanted a 'dive watch' not something I could neccessarily use to time my dives by... more like a robust watch that I could use for outdoor activities and not just diving

Didn't realise you were a veteran diver Sleepy...

Fair enough just wanted to make sure you weren't being advised badly.

if you did want a watch to dive in then look for at least 200m depth rating , the ratings are measured in a non moving envirment so are quite misleading
