I moved into my house about 5 months ago, I got a water meter fitted about 2-3 months ago.

I am billed £17 a month but I am hardly at home, it was zero when it was fitted and it's only on 3 units.

In a few months will my direct debit amount be checked, they'll see I will overpaid - or they over estimated the amount use and I'll be tens/hundreds of pounds in credit? So for several months bill will be zero until it evens out, then estimated bill is more in line with what I use is £5-£10

Same for gas and electric, £60 a month but no way do I use that much..I send them regular meter readings. On the app it said I used £6 in electric and £2 in gas a month

just ring them up (freephone) give them the correct readings and they will fix/credit you as necessary and amend future estimates.
(tails of woe today today about ex-iresa customers who are in credit or even double payed who may not get it back)

The 3 on your meter is in m³ that's a fair amount of water for one person in just a few months, add to that the standing charge, rainwater charge and sewerage and boom! there's your bill. Think of it this way, if you payed water rates (no meter) you could be expected to pay £60pm for just you in the property no mater how much you have used or not!

What water company do you come under?

1000L a month, that’s hardly anything. Just over 33L a day. That’s the equivilent of what 7 toilet flushes? It’s next to nothing.

I agree the bill isn’t far off though. Standing charge 550-600 a year including surface water, which is £1.50-£1.60 a day or £50ish a month.

Water rates are about £1.60 a unit, waste is normally 90% of that.

Gas and electric seem high, we pay about that but there is two of us here all the time. Don’t forget your direct debit on this will be huge compared to summer useage. We use maybe 2 kw of gas (8p?) a day in the summer for hot water. In the winter it’s an order of magnitude more. Electric isn’t that much different.
