Hi All
To cut down on noise and to make my PC a litle bit cooler I'm considering upgrading to a liquid cooling system. My current specs are:

Super Flower SF-750F14MG Power Supply
Gigabyte GA-MA770T -UDP3 Mother Board
AMD Phenom II X4 965 CPU 3.4GHz
AMD Radeon HD 7900 Display Card
8GB Corsair Dominator RAM
SSD 250GB I think.

I've been using the stock CPU fan since I built my little gaming PC and as you'll see from the pictures below I have used Xilence case fans added to the front panel case fan. The system is not running overly hot but the CPU fan is a noisy as hell so that's the main reason for my wanting to go over to liquid cooling. I'm stuck playing Star Wars Battlefront 2 at the moment and my partner can hear the PC fan's downstairs in the living room hehe.

There's a few pictures below of my Sharkoon case with all the internals on show so what's your best advice?

I'm not skint but I do have to be realistic on budget, will I be able to get a solution for less than £50 ?

Will it be quieter?

Feel free to pass on any advice or ideas, even if you think I should stick to a standard fan configuration.

Thanks in advance.

maybe buy a better cooler for the cpu? it doesnt have to be full system watercooling loop. a loop would cost you in excess of £200 thats if you can find the parts as your gpu is pretty old. could even be a good idea to buy a new case with a better cooling profile.

i typed this ages ago and forgot to press "post reply".

i am betting most of the noise is coming from that cpu cooler though and any aftermarket cooler would probably be better and less noisy. the AIO your friend suggested would definitely be quieter and perform better. but you could go for a 120mm radiator one also just for space and cash savings.

Which is why I've had this in my Watch List for a week hehe:

Maybe I just buy that and a 2nd fan to fit on the other side (Push / Pull)and leave it at that.

Honestly any air cooler for £20-30 will be massively cooler AND quieter than the stock AMD cooler from that generation. And it'll be much more reliable.

With leftover budget you could either buy a case with good ventilation and stock fans, or buy some new case fans. If you don't have DC fan control you could buy new PWM fans and have them slow down at cooler temperatures.

To echo other posts, I wouldn't bother with a water loop. Even a cheapo aftermarket air cooler will be tons quieter than AMD's stock cooler. I replaced a friend's ancient Phenom II X2 with a Phenom II X6 recently and strapped a Hyper 212 EVO to it and it's a bazillion times quieter. Cost about £25.
