Water cooling help

Dont think op will mind as its also helping him out with issues he may have in the future.

The difference between the pumps are not massive but will drop the temps a few degrees.

Im using a d5 now and with a 360 and a 120 rads my temps while gaming for a hour are around 50 on gpu.s and 63-65 on the cpu. But the cpu is clocked to 4.7 with 1.4volts.

If you do rad.rad.cpu.gpu.res.pump your cpu will be fine people say it makes no odds which way around you put the rads etc but it will drop the temps on the cpu buy a few degrees its not massive but it works.
 
I also realised as I was typing that that one thing I did that might not have helped is I made the flow go from the pump to the top rad and then from that down to the cpu block (then to the gpu block, to the bottom rad and back to the res) which means the air would have to travel all the way around the loop to get back to the res.
As I'm using the MCP35X pump (basically a DDC pump) in an XSPC bay-res if I turned the PC upside-down then the water in the res wouldn't get to the pump (the pump being attached to the floor of the res, which would put it on top of the res if turned upside-down).
 
Wobble it about that should work.

Dont think its the air that's making the noise its just a odd pump.

What's it fixed to. Do you have that pad underneath it.
 
It's fixed to an XSPC bay res (for 1 Laing DDC pump). OcUK don't stock it and not sure if I can link to the XSPC site as you can buy it direct from them (competitor?).
So it's not sat on anything it's attached to the bottom of the XSPC bay-res, which I imagine would amplify the vibrations a bit and possibly send it into the case. I don't think the O-ring is intended for sound dampening.

Not sure if the OP was going to go for a bay pump/res option, but by the time you've got 2 rads in a CM 690 II you don't have a lot of space to put it anywhere else!

oh yeah, my bad - I meant I put it on it's front, not upside down

But then it's hard to find a place to put it.

This is almost my current setup (that's a 5870 in there, not the 4870x2, but I broke the 5870 somehow at some point)...

Not the best picture and you can't really see the top rad (guess it's well stealthed :)) but it's there.
I know it could be neater, but it's better than it was and at the minute I'm more bothered about getting it right functionally rather than visually.

Wont it interfere with the graphics card then?
Also I can imagine that'd make the tube routing a bit more complicated (unless I turned the top rad around I suppose).

I was considering getting one of those Phobya 1080 (3 x 3) rads and an external stand, but that seems like it might be fiddly to connect up the fan cables. Plus I'm guessing you'd need a bigger pump.

Probably will. The 150 ml EK res without a pump underneath it barely cleared the gf card in my HAF X build
 
Hi all, thanks again for all the input and help. I have taken on board what everyone is saying and i now have a idea of how to install a water cooling system. So i have just ordered my first parts.
A Alphacool VPP655 D5 pump.
XSPC Dual bay res 5.25 for the D5, as i am limited for room. either that or an external res, so went for the bay res. See how it goes and see if it is noisy with the D5 pump.
and a pair of XSPC rads, 1 RS240 and 1 RX240. RX For the bottom and the RS for the top.
I will keep you all up to date as i get the parts and install them, i will keep and post a pic diary as well.
One last thing, just got a clear side panel from OC for my case :)
 
Well i have my first parts, the rads res and pump. I like the idea of the adjustable speeds on the pump, it seems a good design allround and looks neat in the res.
Question though, linking it all together, which way round would you guys advise. Pump and res to rad rad cpu gpu or rad cpu gpu rad and also would you recomend a fan controller for the rad fans
 
Ahhh the loop order! many including my self have asked the same question :)
Although I have not tested this my self, many would say it does not matter - as long as a res before pump. Just chose the neatest looking loop.

Ordered some more parts for my cooling, tubing fans and cpu block (EK Supreme).

Yes i will give a build log. More parts arriving by the day. I will start my build log. Please everyone bare with me as my normal work is very busy, so looks like it will be a weekend or day of job.
I cannot wait to get rid of those fans on the sapphire 6970's, as they sound like jet turbines when pushed hard.
To give you all a refresher, i have a aircooled CM 690 II case with this hardware at the moment in it. A gigabyte 890fxa ud5 mobo, a AMD 1090T cpu, which has a corsair H70 cooling it. 8gb ram (Crucial Tracer 1600mhz). Twin Sapphire 6950's bios flashed to 6970, in Xfire, and to power it i have the 850 watt XFX black edition psu. Hdd's are Seagate Baracuda's 1tb 6gbs and a 500gb for back up.
This is my first attempt at water cooling, i am going to WC the cpu and the gpu's.
