I'm trying to take some pics of little brooks/streams/creeks with little water falls etc and trying to get the whole motion blur for the water to make it look really smooth. Can get it to work somewhat -but (now this may be a real noob question :p) I want to get the shutter speed really slow. Trouble is if I go more than say 1/4sec the light is way to much even with the highest F number (F.8)
Is there a way around this at all?
Here's what I have so far but don't like all the froth from the water - too bright etc

Yeah got it set to 'M', can turn the shutter to 8secs but the F # will not go any higher than F/8.0 - tried everything and not got the manual lol

It'll deffo go higher. Tried aperture priority mode?

On my 350D in M I can't get higher than F/8.0 I think....on Aperture Priority mode it goes all the way to f/22

Just tried it on all settings including aperture mode and still does not go higher than F/8.0 which seems strange? Everything else seems to be all ok - tried messing with different settings and nothing will make that bugger go higher :(

Opps I'm sorry it's a P.80 and this is probably why it's limited.

hmm

That's odd. It should ho higher...find the manual online and see what you can find out...

On my 400D M mode is just that, completely manual. The only limit to the f/ is the lens (f/22 in the case of my 24-60 f2.8).

The only way to do it is to use a smaller aperture, such as f/16. If you can't set it in any mode there may be something wrong with the lens or body. Do you have any other lenses you could try?

Ah, thought you said D80... I imagine that's why then. What ISO were you using?

Edit: ISO64... well, you're pretty much screwed I think. You were using the smallest f/ and lowest ISO, other than adding on some graduated filters (if they will fit) there's not a lot you can do.

Yeah sorry, I originally did. But yeah Nikon P.80.
I had ISO set to auto - what ISO should I be using or testing out?

Ok cool, I'll have another mess about tomorrow. Worked much better shooting in the shade!
Thanks for the suggestions :)

ISO right down as far as it'll go. Aperture to the smallest it'll go, so f/8, or whatever.

Does the p80 take filters? If so and you're really keen on doing this, you can just get some ND filters to cut out some light.

Get a set of ND filters.
