is your card reference or a custom pcb, yes 7970 blocks fits but only if its a reference card and have you had a look on ebay

It must be a custom pcb as cooling configurator says "Sorry, we have no plans to make any waterblocks for this position. Thank you." You can still watercool it but you will need to use a universal block such as the EK Thermosphere. You will also have to buy a adaptor to fit AMD cards.

Its custom pcb. Yeah look on ek website so universal block is only way to go?

What's best way to cool vrm ect with universal block?

Card isn't overheating or anything just have system on water and would like gpu as well looks more than anything I'm a neat freak and I'm doing a acrylic build want whole system on water

Techpowerup is always a good place to check a card as they always strip it down so you can see what's under the cooler. Unfortunately their review of your card shows it just to have a baseplate and no vrm cooler. I think that bracket at the top of the baseplate will interfere with the water block so I reckon that will have to come off as well. You can put ramsinks on the memory but the vrm's are going to need some sort of heatsink. I ended up making one out of a copper 1u server cooler for my GTX780 but that doesn't even seem to be a option as your card has a single row of vrms. The Alpefohn kit that OCUK used to sell would have been perfect as it had a long heatsink for vrm's. Maybe you can find it elsewhere unless it's been discontinued. Another option is the Enzotech kits.

One thing to be wary of though is that cooling configurator didn't list the Thermosphere for your card. It did list the EK Supreme VGA which is now discontinued and you may be able to find them still in stock somewhere or pick one up second hand.

where it slots into the motherboard is there writing on the pcb saying AMD or MSI it should be in white

Hmmm maybe if we check a few more times it'l eventually suggest a reference block or another full cover block that doesn't fit?

Spin the card around three times and throw a smoke bomb, then check the EK cooling configuration.

Is universal block and heatsinks enough? Or will I need fan on them too?? If so it defeats object slightly for me anyway I'm neat freak

Been talking to local chap today he had old msi card and he said I can send my card to alphacool and they will scan pcb and make block

Anyone done this?

A custom made block will cost you a fortune. If i were you i would go take the easiest and cleanest route. Sell the card and buy a reference, take a small cash hit to get it sorted out quickly, then you are free to use the full cover block.

You could even just spend a lil more and get a 290 considering how dirt cheap they are on MM.

Have been thinking this sell 280x

Second hand value?? Roughly

Last one sold recently at £110 with a custom cooler i think. You could probably sort out a 290 with water-block second hand for the price of a new block + the cash from the card.

Universal blocks and heatsinks are more than capable and I only ever use Universal blocks. The one thing I would be worried about in your case though is your vrm's. That's where the most heat will come from and being a single narrow line of chips I think it will be difficult to get heatsinks staying stuck to them. As you are already considering it, it may be better to sell it and buy a card with a reference pcb so you can use a full cover block.
