I've done a few googles but I'm finding next to nothing on the subject of prechilled water loops.

I always try and stay 1 step in front of myself in case I get bored (;)) vapo goes in on sunday and despite my interest I doubt I'll pelt my 7800s, I still think it looks a bit dodgy (like asking for a house fire).. I am interested in a near or sub zero prechilled water loop for them and the NB though.

2 questions..

1) Is there any point?

2) Anyone seen guides/examples etc?

what?

FFS at least I'm not a n00b asking if I could put my pc in a fridge.

hack a fridge to bits to chill some water maybe but not a pc in a fridge ;)

@marv yeah, I know I said I wasn't interested and right now I'm not but I know what I'm like and this does seem like it has the potential the turn into a fun cheap project.

Aside from anything I feel like I ought to be MAKING things more than just putting bits together. At its base level a water kit is just an expensive lego set but something like this is sooooo much more.

Just wait until sunday night anyway.. thats when things should get interesting :)

Yeah, just been thinking that, also where the hell it would all go. With the vapo underneth my pc will fit under the desk with about 4" clearance which is fine for the 120.2 to get some air but its not enough for me to go hiding half a fridge :D

I wouldn't mind using pelts to cool the water so maybe I can do something like that?

The whole sub ambient condensation thing seems quite an issue too, I could give it a go in the shed when I've cleared it out perhaps :D

Pelt chillers are horribly inefficient and would cost quite a lot to set up sinec you'd need around 4 172w pelts at 12v for optimal conditions

Thats ~15 per pelt
~180ish for 2 psu's to power the pelts
lots of rads to cool the pelts down etc.

Surely theres other places you could whack a chiller, just get a nice powerful pump and have lots of tubing :p

well I could put it on top of the desk assuming there's some way of making it small enough.

I don't want to sound like a snob because its really not that long since I was a beginner but I reckon we should petition for an "extreme" or "advanced" section in here so we can pick out interesting stuff from the avalanche of "how much vcore for my opteron" and "which heatsink is best for this" and "I can't be arsed to search the forum".

reading about 1kg heatsinks makes me sad :(

The Mach 2 has left Denmark. Not sure if said person who I am buying it from has it yet. And even then. I overheard a courier saying that they were not re-distibuting deliveries around Aberdeen because the roads are a nightmare here at the moment. Cars go up the hill, then down the hill backwards (repeat). And with more snow on the way it doesnt look good.

As long as it gets here in 1 piece I'll be happy.

Thats unlucky, hope you get it soon. Snow has been really bad here today so god knows how it'll have been up in Aberdeen. At least you can collect it from the big guy now he's moved :)

Matt depends how powerfull you want it, you could get them fairly small or get a big ******. Theres a fella selling one in a mach 2 case but it's likely to be out of your price range i'd have thought.

What is your budget anyway?

I'll vouch for that, My car's snowed in up past the bumpers, has been since yesterday afternoon, got a good 15 inches of snow here easily!

Yeah. my neighbours Ka is in danger of disapearing.

Is it possible to do snow cooled PC's?

I'll post up some pics of my car once i get my PC up and running again, Pug 406 (which is white, lol) and the snow is right up above the number plate, you would struggle to even get the doors open without a spade tbh.

My PC was almost snow cooled when it blew it's PSU up the other night, i very nearly threw it out of the ******* window into the snow

:p
