So following on from my 800d build we have moved on to a joint venture (me and my nephew) building a watercooled PC desk.

So thought we would start a build log now that the desk in finally starting to resemble , , well a desk.

Watercooling will be ordered this week so hopefully will have a finished article in the not too distant future (pictures to follow).

So to start off we started with a sheet of MDF. MDF???? I hear you cry? Yep thats right, sealed to stop the wood expanding and drawing in the moisture in the air as MDF likes to do. Once it was cut to size, bolted together with 4 (wouldnt work with 2) legs it started to resemble somthing a bit more like a desk.

A rear cable / PSU hideaway was incorporated to hide all the unsightly cabling etc, with entry and exit fans along the channel. All the I/O cabling will also route through here.

Further fans were added to each side of the desk and the power cabling extended with UV braid (which look orange for some reason haha).

We Added a motherboard tray modded down to suit and sprayed black, cut out the dvd bay and fan controller front bays.

DVD drive will be modded with perspex / led to show internal workings. Aim to CNC etch the top of this with a hazmat design all going well.

Desk will be UV / red as the theme and the build is so far at least going in the direction I want it to.

This project is a work in progress and steady progress is being made. Just waiting on the toughened glass to arrive and then It water cooling time!

Watercooling kit I will be going for is as follows (subject to change of course).

7/16 (5/8"OD) Masterleer PCV tubing in UV Dark Red
Alphacool Nexxos UT60 360 triple radiator
associated fittings / rotary fittings to suit 7/16"ID, 5/8"OD
EK-FC580 GPU waterblock
EK Supreme HF Full Nickel CPU Block
Alphacool VPP655 (laing d5) with D5 high flow top (acetal)
Lamptron FC5 Fan Controller
Thermochill EC6 Red Coolant
Scyth Gentle Typhoons 1850rpm fans x 3
Aluminum push button 19mm red ring power button
associated y-cable splitters, extensions (pcie, sata, molex etc) in uv red.
Sharkoon cold cathode kit in red (also a uv kit)
EK bay spin reservoir (acetal)

Sorry yes it will be tempered glass. UV lit with a red theme.

Reservoir pump etc will be on the flat bed to the right of the mobo.

Pipe runs will be in the hide at the rear.

Radiator will be mounted in a housing underside the the rear of the desk. We were going to sink it to the right of the desk but decided that it would look a little cluttered.

Will finish carbon wrapping the underside and rear of the desk. Then its on to the watercooling.

Hopefully this time next week should see it a good step further on.

Well, what can I say.

We have been on the desk all day today and unfortunately the radiator is leaking on the bottom weld!!!!

Gutted!!! Good news is no leaks were seen any where else.

Will get to work on the rest of the desk tomorrow and see about getting some pics upped.

Be patient my lovlies hahahaha

Right then my lovlies.

We have been working hard on this desk all weekend and shes making very good progress.

Watercooling is in. Pc is a booting so thats the main thing!

Had a nightmare with the supplied radiator. Looked like it was pulled from the titanic and leaked as badly as it looked. Luckily the supplier sorted me out with a better one!

Leak testing has been completed. Wiring in mostly done, Just got more lighting to do (res lights, under desk lighting etc). Need an atx extension, mod the dvd drive and just general bling.

Glass is on order so should be complete by the weeks end.

So here are some pics (taken with my phone so appologies). Once the cabling is tidied up and the desk completed I will take some decent shots.

Some cabling still needs braiding. ATX power cable will run underneath and yes the mobo is a wonky as the tray is not fastened down yet. Dont forget this is not finished haha!

Fitted some under desk lighting.

Also incased the dvd drive in a custom enclosure. CNC machined out a bio hazzard logo for it also.

Picking glass top up in the morning along with the remaining cables to complete.

Just got to mount foam stripping around the top edge of the desk (glass will sit on it).

I agree tracer ram would look good and may be on the agenda.

The empty space was going to show off the ssd drives and may well end up that way down the line. At present the hdd / ssd's are tucked away in the back.

This project is still very much work in progress but at the moment it is in a functioning state and looking quite good.

Well my partner in crime did all the desk build wood work, covering etc etc and I was the watercool / IT guy lol.

Id say about 60 - 80 hours work or so to complete to where its at.

Like I said previously the desk will evolve and is a long shot off finished.

Cost wise around £700 for the watercooling, cabling, desk, glass, fans etc etc.

This does not include the cost of the pc itself of course.

My opo is planning a small air cooled build next which will be a fraction of this cost.
